It's all about dealer contributions and absorbing the neg equity in the RS.
Negative equity doesn't just disappear from a depreciating asset. A new car will depreciate faster than something used, even with dealer contribution, so your negative equity will simply stay in the new car in some shape or form.

In most situations you will simply be adding more negative equity from the new car on to the old outstanding balance.

I have to say I find this thread very strange, I get the RS6 isn't floating your boat as much as you'd like but do you really dislike it enough to lose such a large amount of money?

You obviously didn't get a great deal on it and is why you've lost so much, I wouldn't rush in to anything else as the replacement will probably lose more!!!!!

Why not live with it for 6 months and see if you can like it a bit more?

Maybe you didn't read the opener in the thread? In short: love the RS6 however can't justify the cost anymore!
Did some number crunching yesterday and have decided that new car should be the last option. Have lowered the asking price of the RS to shift it privately (am waiting to speak to a potential buyer today) and pay the balance of the finance myself. This would then free me up to go anywhere I want and buy second hand. No depreciation, no crippling first year tax (£800 on the S4) and huge savings all round (S4 Avant I've been offered is £54k whereas you can source identical second hand for at least £10k less). Time will tell I guess!

I thought the OP has weighed up the RS6 against his monthly payments and found it left wanting. So I think the biggest sticking point now is to stop those monthly payments while not taking a bath on swapping or selling, this seems to feature more than how good the car is or how much better it is likely to be in 6 months.
Personally, I think he should rip the plaster off it quick, take the maximum he's been offered and sink it into an older piece of Pork.
No matter where you go, there you are.

On the nosey Bam. I simply cannot justify what is a big mortgage payment every month for a piece of (admittedly awesome) metal sat on the drive. Coming from contracting into FTE means I need to budget a lot more keenly than before. Lower monthly outgoings on a car is the goal and it all needs to balance out. Car hasn't depreciated that much as I've only had it 4 months.
It's all about more money in my back pocket every month and not ploughing it into a car.

I understand where the OP is coming from with regards to keeping the monthly costs in check.
I was in a similar position a good few years ago, however the "mortgage" payment was not down to car payments but the cost to run the thing (v8 S4) each month after my wife's job and commuting distance changed. The fuel costs alone were over £600 a month and I got to the point where my head said it was time to get rid. Luckily I got a very good price for the car but since then I do make sure that the cost of ownership is not too daft. Ironically we now have 3 cars (991, focus and a fiesta) in the household and my fuel bill itself is half of what the S4 was!

I understand all that has been written,

But sadly the numbers dont add up - and allegedly this is meant to be an accounting issue.

You are probably paying £1000-1200/month on the RS
You will lose circa £6000 to get out of it
Your new toy is gonna be in the £50k range and hence cost £7-800/month on the new finance
The net saving will take you at least 15+ months to recoup the £6k initial loss
By which time the depreciation on the RS will have plateaued somewhat whilst the new car will probably have been in its steepest depreciation period and effectively lost you even more money.

So by the time all this man-maths works out to be a net positive in your back pocket you will have spent 2years in a car less good to be back essentially the same position as you are now !!

I too dont get it lol

'History of the purchase and the vehicle itself'......do tell. Oh and before you commit yourself I'd read ALL of the relevant threads. Seriously. If you don't want to discuss on open forum then do it via PM.

You and others told, I'm well aware, hence the mention. No need to be defensive.

People are losing track on this one I think!
To sum up where I currently am:
Not looking at new cars anymore unless I absolutely have to.
Dropped price of RS to sell privately and will make up shortfall myself (obviously don't want to get my pants pulled down though). Next car will be significantly cheaper than the RS (potentially half the price) and hence lower outgoings. Will probably put zero £ down-exactly the same as I did with the RS. After number of months the savings I'm making on running a much cheaper car will balance out the initial payment (to clear finance) and then then the rest is cheaper motoring and more money for me every month. Maybe man maths but the RS monthly isn't a sum I'm prepared to pay anymore. Situations change workwise and lifestyle wise and we adapt.
Clearer now?

Sorry but you're intimating that there is something wrong with the car and bringing up a pretty painful long drawn out subject that got put to bed some months ago. Why else bring it up?
