Front Suspension knocking

Post by white.akita » Tue Jul 11, 2017 2:44 pm

I have knocking noises from the front suspension.
The sound is worse over slightly uneven ground, so seemingly when the car has side to side movement.
When going over speed bumps there is no sound at all.
I have checked the steering rack bolts and they are tight, no noise when quickly turning the steering wheel either.
Any advice ?

does it sound like a golf ball rolling inside the door pocket?
if it does and car still has drc it may have issues-very common

No, it's a metal on metal sound.
I do have 2 fault codes for engine mounts open circuit, 005491 and 005495.
But I will be surprised if engi e mounts can make the sound I'm hearing.

I hope you didn't pay a lot for this car, lol, seems to be no end to these issues!

I got it very cheap. Only needed a vacuum selonoid for the edc light to extinguish.
If I've got to put new suspension on it I will still make at least a grand profit.

Oh right, so you're not keeping it then?

There may be a reason it was super cheap?

i knew of all the faults before i bought it, fixed most of them already, just got the suspension knock to pinpoint. i already budgeted for a coilover kit fitted before i bought it, but want to make sure its not something else which may be common on these before i buy the coilovers or just sell as is.
no i wont be keeping the car, i much prefer my 380bhp 335d which is faster than the rs4 and gets double the mpg.

i had a 335d,e92,mapped etc-feel really quick with a big slab of torque from 0 rpm-but the rs4 still has the edge-grip,quality etc
same argument with the m3 v8 e9x the 335d feels faster-but its no m car for sure
