Squeaking brakes

Post by bedlamater » Wed Nov 30, 2016 11:56 pm

Anyone else had this? Been doing it since about 2k miles and on 6k now? So can't be bothered to book it in for an inspection at Audi... :bash:

Cheers

Seems to be brought up quite a lot on here! Occasionally notice it but i'm used to much noiser pads from track day and race cars so never bothered me - i woulodn't consider it a 'problem' as such.

Bear in mind it is colder now, so you may notice more until they're up to a decent temperature. Otherwise i think you have to accept you need to get Audi to look at it.

I had it but it's now gone. Audi said its the consistency of material in the pad that's changed and they could not do anything with it

Had it with my ceramics, to be honest it was very close to me rejecting the car. Bit of "spirited" driving soon bedded them in. Good as new now.

It appears to be an issue with all performance Audi's :-/ mine do it on my R8, Audi are currently looking into it. But I think they'll just say it's a characteristic of the car.

My discs and pads were replaced 4k miles ago and the squeaking has returned.....from around 12mph on very gentle braking to a stop. Its going in for the exhaust valves on the 12th so will get them to look at the brakes once its in.

My S6 is in for squeaking brakes currently - just had a call to say that they are going to clean up the discs and pads to see if that fixes it ... 65% wear on the pads though, so inevitably they are going to say replace discs and pads if it carries on.

After a long battle with this on my C7 RS6, Audi have replaced the discs - I had to replace the pads as they were 70% worn. The discs are a different part number to the originals, the RS team said that the discs had been overheated......

Let's see if this works.

Mines started now....2k in and squeaking at low speeds. Is it worth taking it in.....or is the consensus that its going to be a waste of time?

Very common most of this is caused by not using the brakes hard enough
My 13 plate RS4 has 26k on original steel disks 2nd set of pads I occasionally get a squeal a low speeds but only after a long motorway run or a lot of stop start driving
This is solved by taking the car on a quite road a stamping hard on the brakes several time with out locking up the brakes to clean the pad material build up that causes the squeal

I've only had my C7 for a couple of months and they were squealing when i got it - they aren't now though! Maybe I use them more heavily than the previous owner?! 17k miles (I've done 2k of that).

I disagree. My ceramics never squeaked.
