Modified cars always can break faster, that's a reality, when car comes from factory it's calculated for certain amount of hp and torque, if you start raising hp and torque every engine parts tear quicker and engine life is shortened, that's why you always need to take a risk and be paranoid when travel long journeys 2000km with your family "if something happens "

Just ordered my Akrapovic and once installed I'll tune with MRC stage one. Do you think getting the MRC air filters will make much difference? Worth it?

On another note, what downpipes are the best to go with the Akrapovic Exhaust system? Perhaps I'll just go direct to stage 2.

There are 2 charge coolers available as far as I've found -
Forge do one which I might try but the AMS one looks much bigger, both need no fabrication.
AMS is American though and twice the money.

They are only bigger radiators for the standard charge cooler. Not good value for money in my view. We need a company to actually make a bigger charge cooler or fab up 2 (or one) Air to Air coolers that can be monted on the front of the car. I am sure someone will do it soon enough.

Audi have been grippy with their cooler set up. Look at the F10 M5, very similar set up but it has 2 chrage coolers, just not the room in the Audi.

Not very wise decision on akrapovic, exhaust itself gives only 7 kw, Miltek itself gives 26 hp, akrapovic has more restrictions in piping, if you want tune your car, firstly you need choose exhaust that will give you later performance not only sound, think like that: you install cattles downpipes and your exhaust is restricted with some boxes in a middle that keeps gas flow free. You will get back pressure, that's not good for turbos and engine.

Miltek in other hand itself can be none resonated and Downpipes can be stock, but gas from downpipes goes free to exhaust cos Miltek has no restrictions

Thanks for the feedback. I did look at both options (and a few more). My primary goal isn't performing, more sound. PERSONALLY I feel the sound if the Akrapovic is far superior to the Miltek. Milltek sounded too loud for my liking and I don't want to sound like a boy racer when on the school run. The Akrapovic sounds just right for me. Again, this is a personal preference and I understand not everyone feels the same.

Cheers.

Correct - my mistake.
Even so the claims are quite impressive from the Graphs forge use - but they are going to be I suppose!
Without looking the ALpha one is considerably larger.
If i went hybrids I'd probably order from America. Got to add some safety/ power and longevity to the blowers..

Can't remember who, but I think someone recently told me the Forge one wasn't very good. Think it was someone doing some testing at MRC.

On paper with Litchfields results look ok, but I'd put more value on opinion from MRC .
AMS have a good rep... but I only know them through GTR scene - not sure how much they do with audi

I wasn't talking only about sound, I was also mentioned that akrapovic gives you less performance

Which is why I mentioned in the first line that performance isn't my primary interest. Furthermore, I here this random figure of an additional 50hp coming from the Miltech system, I'm not sure where someone got this number from but it seems highly unlikely to me, second to that, Miltech themselves don't even claim to increase anywhere close to 50hp.. Sounds like a job for Myth busters..

The sound is much nicer and more refined on an Akrapovic, the system is fully Titanium and the appearance of the system, specifically the tips look far superior to that of a Miltech system. Miltech is loud and thunderous, the kind of sound i wanted when I was 23.. Granted, you are paying a premium for these luxuries but if you are willing to spend so much on a car like this, 6k isn't exactly going to hurt the pockets.. All around its clearly a better system but it comes at a price.

And FYI, I am in contact with several companies that can add downpipes to the system (including Akrapovic's sister company) and this paired with an MRC stage 2 will take you over the 700hp mark, not bad for a school run.

My results from a step by step process are on another thread but if I recall it was
555 std
660 stage 1
720 cat back and downpipes
Some might say that's they stage 1 map power is low, but I know that this tune is basically apr's "690" map.

MRC have just posted they have a cat back car doing 720hp - seems a lot but they say it's a "good" car.
So maybe quite a variance in what's obtainable..
