S mode not working

Post by Rodney007 » Sun Apr 02, 2017 3:17 pm

Hi guys, I know this has been covered already and have pretty much read everything there is on it but thought I would ask anyway.

Few days back purchased a 06 B7 RS4 and what a machine... Love it!! But like probably some of you have fou nd a few things that I am not 100% sure about.

When I press S mode (car is at regular operating temp) there ia no tone change. On visual inspection the flaps do not move from the open position.

On phyaical inspection both valvea move easily and are not seized.or stuck. Both lines are fully attached.

When pressing "S off". I can hear a sound from the rear of the car like a motor or something (solinoid?) For 1.5 secs very faintly but as I said the valvea dont move closed still?

Overall the power is good however not having driven another I dont have a comparasion. I do have a feeling something maybe a little "off" so to speak with power delivery as the power feels a lite bit flat in the mid range and suspect it maybe intake flap? On physical inspection the flap does move fine and at engine off its restinf at almost 90 * degrees open but am unsure of mocement while in operation. (Conection to S move vaccumm?)

Car has been fueled up with 95 octane. Vehicle has full service hiatory and had carbon clean 12000kms.

Would love to hear any input however am thinking just to find a specialist near me that nows these "qwerks" and see what they can do about it.

Cheers,

Check when the engine is off that the flaps are open. Then start the engine and the flaps should close. The press the S button and they should open again. If they stay open all the time they might be stick open (But I think you said they are not stuck) so might have a vacuum problem.

Could be vac pump if the lines are attached and valves not seized

Higher performance cars need higher octane fuel..granted it costs more..hence more use the cheaper fuel..

You will not notice gains until late you have been through 3 odd tank fulls of the higher octane fuel as the ecu needs to adapt.

Car will adjust to the octane..but will be doing it no good..

Thanks for the advice... i must say, i have just done the throttle reset and 20 mins of thrashing the tits off her and now it drives muuuuuch better.. whole rpm range is smooth and powerful!. Must have learned "bad habbits" from prior owner and his wife.. the flat spot at 5k rpm is gone... maybe this was where they were lifting off the throttle? Who knows... happy man!

Hopefuly the new fuel adds even more power!
