New member with RS6 avant

Post by james85 » Wed Mar 29, 2017 8:23 pm

Hi everyone

Bought my RS6 avant back in september last year, thought it was about time I joined up. I did have a look on here whilst doing my research into buying one of these so already found this place useful. You lot didnt manage to put me off I was determined to get one ha !

This was for sale on autotrader with 94k miles on the clock . I wasn't expecting much when going to look at it as price wise it was at the lower end of things but mechanically it was well looked after. New tyres and front discs had not long been fitted so that was a bonus.
Exterior wise it was a little tired , needed a good wax a few light scratches sorting . The lights were oxidised .
Test drove the car, could't fault it . Only fault really mechanically wise was the gearbox had a slight leak which did have me a little worried but I thought it was just a seal and luckily thats all it was.

The previous owner had used it as his dog carrier and only done 6k miles in 4 years so dont think it had been driven too hard recently.
However I got it booked in at unit 20 as soon as I got it just to make sure its all good. Got them to check it over had a big service including the gearbox and seal and all has been well since.
They said its in very good order with the exception of some cheapo brake pads so Ive bought some ferrodo ds2500s ready to go on.

The car is standard except bilstein coilovers interior wise its got alcantara and leather seats, alcantara headlining , carbon fibre trim , satnav tv 6 disc cd changer and bose speakers.

Anyway a few pics :

Future wise I will be getting either a new exhaust or custom to get a bit more v8 noise and colour coding the wheels to match the paint.
It will probably get a proper paint correction at some point and paint the front bumper as its got alot of chips.

Anyhow Ive done around 3 k miles in it , really enjoying the power and the discreet look of it , oh and Ive now got a shell loyalty card !

Cheers

FON.

Looking good. Best colour. :-p

Don't paint the wheels. It will look poo.

10mm spacers would improve the stance.

And get a stubby aerial.

My 2nd favourite colour and welcome to the "burning £20 notes club"!!

I've just started doing some paint correction on mine and the paint is really hard but does come up well.

Lovely car that, I'm hoping to start my search soon for similar but prices seem to be all over the place at the moment. Did you search for long before you found this one?

Have to agree with shoppinit on the wheel colour choice. I have the same colour combos as your and asked the same question about the wheels, but have decided to keep them as is after seeing photos a some painted the same as the car.

You don't think having bright silver wheels makes it look like an old mans station wagon ? :bigwave:

Whilst I wouldn't go down the route of painting them exactly the same colour as the car, IMO they certainly need to be darker, smoked etc..... Brings the car a little more up to date. Same with the Stereo, those are the 2 things that really make the car look it's age and would be the first to go for me.

But it's not an "up to date" car; keep it original.

As for the "stereo" if you have Bose amp and speakers you're potentially into a whole world of hurt trying to change anything so best not to.
You can get add-ons for streaming etc. if you really need them.

Heres a copy to my post asking about wheel colour choice. After looking a but deeper my wheels dont seem a bright as your silver, they seem to have a little smokey titanium tinge running through them.

These cars are of a different area to the modern flash, and chinsyness (i know its probably no the right spelling). Its because of that styling that makes them more desirable as they get older. Look at old RS2's, UR's or even S2s- they seem to be more desirable and valuable in their natutural state astheticly. Just my thoughts before i get shot doon (yes doon was meant - i'm a weegie)

If you're gonna keep it forever then yeah keep it original. If not, do what you want to it, you need to enjoy it after all. IMO, plus models are best left standard as these are more desirable.
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Now - Empty garage

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there!

Cheers for the welcome , well another £50 got burnt up today in fuel but was a fun drive out! Not been keeping the fuel receipts but shell have already sent me £20 in vouchers so must have got through some fuel lol .
Definatly getting the exhaust done next , just not loud enough in standard form. At the minute more leaning towards the silencer delete over a full system.
With regards to the wheels , yes normally I am in for leaving things standard but Ive seen a few pics with darker wheels and it looks great , but Ill see at a later point.

Not really just kept an eye out for a couple of months. Made sure I did my research and knew what to look out for before buying. Probably goes without saying but Id only get one with full history thats been well maintained.
I think I got lucky with this one I was the first responder to the advert and it was a good price. The seller could have got more money for it maybe if he cleaned the bloody thing! but I think he was just after a quick sale.
Price wise they seem to be from £8-£12k at the minute .
Good luck with your search!

Hiya mate. I've had mine for about the same time as you and done similar miles as well. Loved every single mile so far. Mine is mug blue and I mine came with the darker shade wheel. It's the 'plus' colour which I believe is titan, which I prefer. I'm customising my car to my liking but I'm making sure it's all reversible so it can be changed back if I seek the car.

In regards to the back box delete, see if you can go out in one first. Mine came with a back box delete and it can drone really badly in the cabin at times which isn't always great. I'm planning on changing to a miltek cat back in the future.

Oh and I'm also racking up shell points!
