Following on from Sam's recent thread about useful littes features for the B8 RS4 I thought I'd start a similar thread for the C7.

After over a year I have finally worked out what the emtpy foam / polystyrene type tray under the false floor is for. It holds the load retaining hooks that have always lived in my load rails!! That was bugging me for ages.

When you open the drivers door with the engine on and it starts beeping relly annoyingly you can silence it (temporarily only) by pressing the left arrow button on the left hand side of the steering wheel. If anyone knows how to silence it permanently with VCDS please let me know. Incidentally, the handbrake coming on when you open the drivers can can be deactivated using VCDS.

The boot can be closed as well as opened from the door switch and can be opened and closed using the key fob. To do this you need to activate with VCDS (I can give you instructions but I've posted it loads of times on here before). When closing via door switch or remote key fob you get a beeping like a lorry reversing to make sure no-one gets trapped in the door (I believe this can be turned off if annoying).

After turning the ignition off, press and hold the fan button to acitivate the residual heat function. The system will then heat the interior using the remaining heat in the engine coolant for about 30 mins. Useful when popping in to the shops in the winter.

There are actually little storage compartments under the front seats. I saw it in the manual but assumed it was for the other type of seats but it is actually there.

You all know about the boost gauge? And the shift lights when in manual gearbox mode? The storage compartment on the left hand side of the boot? And that the staorage door lifts right off for better access?

If you flick the windscreen stalk all the way down to the single wipe position while the engine is off the wipers will go to the service position (straight up). This allows you to lift the wipers off the screen without bashing the bonnet so you can change the wiper blades, but more commonly, wash the car and wipers properly. This can be done via the MMI too but much easier this way.

You can actually fold the wing mirrors forwards and upwards when cleaning the car. This help the water drain out and stops you getting those annoying mirror drips down the doors.

There are probably others that I will add as I remember them. And there are some that I think are obvious so haven't mentioned them (like the dipped passenger mirror with reverse) but feel free to add any, and there are others that I probably don't know yet.

What about Cabin temperature sync for the OCD types, who need to have driver and passenger side the same. Can you press and hold the driver side one in to re-synchronise on the C7 RS6?

Good thinking Sam. There is a sync button on the C7 but that will synchronise all 4 heating zones, but if you press and hold the centre of the drivers temp dial it will just sync the front two heating zones and leave the rear as it was.

Pressing the accelerator when in gear with the handbrake on will release the handbrake but only if you have your seat belt on. This can be modified with VCDS to work with the seat belt off too.

There is a setting with VCDS to automatically apply the handbrake when you select P with the gear lever but i havent managed to get this working yet.

On the DIS. Press the menu button on the left hand side of the steering wheel and scroll down to lap timer and select. There is a boost gauge on the left hand side of the DIS now. You wont see anything there until you start boosting. On the same screen you will get shift lights across the top when you put the gearbox into manual. You also get the oil temperature on this screen So you know When It is warm enough to boooooosssssttttt.

If you have 16 model car onwards, switch on ignition (but don't start car), push accelerator fully down slowly once and hold for 10 secs before repeating. Then start car and press and hold sync button on climate screen for 5 secs and you access hidden PE engine ECU map and get an extra 50 odd horses for nowt.

lol heres one I discovered last week after two years of ownership, I had ordered the window shades for the kids. They pull up from the rear doorsills, last week I saw a similar hook on the tailgate and said I wonder what that's for? Brother in law, who was visiting goes "oh isn't that for the shade?" to which I replied.. what shade? He feels around and pulls out a blind LOL! two years! I dug around back some more and found another pull up that blocks luggage stacked high up from sliding into passenger area too!

Did you know you can remove the luggage protection net thing from the back of the seats so when you fold the back seats down you can clip it onto the rear seats and hook it onto the other points on the ceiling so you still have the protrction of the net but much further forward in the cabin.

Or take the net out altogether and significantly improve your power to weight ratio - that net is made of pig iron.
