New RS4 finally here!

Post by samuk » Fri Mar 17, 2017 11:40 am

Thanks all for the help and advise give over the last 2 weeks..

After viewing near 8 RS4's, saw one that i liked however was 400 miles away. It looked good and sounded good..

I had collected the car yesterday - soon as i got on the motorway after some breaking the discs started to judder really badly.

Last mot said "front discs fluctuating, but not excessively" The add stated "recent discs and pads MOT's and serviced 2016" by Audi

When i got home, i checked the paperwork again - discs and pads were changed by Audi mid 2015. The seller mentioned the were warped and he had then skimmed however this slipped my mind..

I did test drive the car, however a very short distance.. as he was being cautious!

This purchase was a ball ache with payment - Initially he had agreed cash, then changed his mid after i have borrowed money of afew friends. Now wants a bank transfer! i said i would deposit the cash in his bank, as he is scotish and unsure about how to check the notes..but then said he does not want cash in the bank as they bank can come back to him later if the notes are dodgy... plum!

Anyway..car drives fine, just little annoyed about the discs..guessing i cant really go back to him? as he stated these issues were resolved.

£16.5 + £400 to collect..

I had budgeted some extra for repairs..

Cheaper then others i had seen..and was happy with the condition of the bodywork.

Interior i am going to get re-trimmed aswell as the steering wheel.

Sent the guy a msg..saying the discs are worped..he goes he had them skimmed in October and took the car to 80mph and had not problem... lol after breaking 4 time..fronts are wobbling so bad!

Unsure if they can be skimmed again...or am i looking at new discs?

Had seen the more expensive ones..and they were in awful states..no paperwork...and some dealers had the cars on there forcort for 4+ months..and filthy!

This one came with a folder full of paperwork for works done...and comprehensive service

Mine did the same but fortunately I bought it from John Holland in Sheffield, disks were skimmed before I collected it which within 4 weeks started to get wheel wobble, they replaced them FOC with Brembos which again after 3 weeks happened again , they then got Brembo to look at the car who again replaced disks and pads but also lower arms and since then its been spot on

Eurocarparts currently doing Brembo front discs for £625 a pair. Use discount code PAT55 for St. Patrick's Day !!

Unfortunately brakes on the RS4 are one of the biggest expenses.

Thanks..

How much are oem?
Guessing i can still use my pads?

Iv used after market (though not brembi) in my 535..and they were awfull.. and did not last long.

Any idea how the brembo will hold up..

Currently i get no judder with normal breaking...though the brakes are crap..

Or get Genuine Audi replacements from Stoke Audi at £636.

When replacing the discs, you should definitely use new pads.

Genuine pads from same place:-

well thinking..Brembo @ £625 or original Audi for little more..

The pads have only been in for near 4000 miles - how would i know if i can use these?

if not do brembo do pads to match the discs?

unsure if the ones you linked are 2 or 1..have messaged - however found this.. @ £690

Brembo make the OEM discs, they are identical other than the Audi part number. Brembo don't make the OEM pads though, I think they are pagid. They may still make a pad that fits though.

Guys, tons of threads on here about brake judder. RS4 discs do not warp. The judder is caused by transfer of pad material onto the discs causing high spots. Even a fraction of a millimetre of crud can cause serious judder. One of the main causes is riding the brake at junctions/lights etc or simply not using the brakes hard enough leading to pad material bonding onto the disc surfaces. A skim will cure it but unless the cause (ie driving style) is addressed it will return. The old warped discs thing is a myth.

Get Marcus at www.discskimmers.com to sort your brakes. You will save hundreds of £ and he'll confirm if you need new ones... Hope you don't.

Honestly, try him.
