Rear Windscreen wiper upright

Post by AviatorEGHH » Fri Mar 10, 2017 8:11 am

Hi Peoples,

Has anyone got a clue about this? -

B7 RS4 Avant with the below problem.

While using my rear wiper it will eventually get bored and stop in the upright position. Nothing can be done about it until I stop, park for a while, then go back to the car, turn the ignition on and it returns to it's horizontal position. Then later, when in use again, the same thing happens.

What's that all about? Electrical short? Relay? dying wiper motor?

Thanks guys.

Isn't this controlled by a control unit? If so then I'd suggest that is probably what is faulty.

Dying wiper motor. They all do this as the mechanism gunks up with water and rust. Our last A3 was dying just before we pxd it, so we managed to get the wiper parked properly and took the fuse out so it wouldn't get stuck upright again

Thanks.

Not time to PX yet so I'll have to remain with Plan 'A'

It is an easy swap out - the trim is a bit tricky to remove the first time but there is a good video on you tube. I got a Valeo motor off eBay and is 3 10mm bolts to remove and the nut under the plastic cap. It will take an hour or so to do the first time but I reckon 20 minutes now.
