Audi forced induction RS cars always produce higher numbers than manufacturer quotes.

Unfortunately when you struggle to get away from BMW turbo diesels the appeal of investing 60 - 65k on a performance car grates a little! For me you just cant beat the sound of a V8 and with the RS4 and 5 it was always about the engine for me. I'm not really feeling it for the synthesised sounds of the lower capacity turbo charges engines if I'm honest but it seems to be where everyone is going. I took an M2 out for a test drive and that was returning less than 20 MPG on the journey we took so are they really that more efficient and they just sound very boy racer to me!

The RS3 sounds amazing and is 5 cylinder. Not synthesized. I think the 6 cylinder engine here will also sound fantastic. This place is full of Debbie Downers this week.
I can't think of any Audi RS with a synthesized engine noise. SQ5 has it I think but that's a diesel (and not an RS).

And people are moaning about the lack of V8 but then moaning about the lack of power and torque from the V8. Emission rules / battle with other manufacturers is driving them to produce more efficient engines and unfortunately more efficient means smaller and smaller means less cylinders. But they can still sound Good!

I've never moaned about a lack of power or torque from the N/A V8. To me, figures are all pub talk and a quiet Welsh/Scottish road is the best indicator and equaliser.

Anyway, there is a good promo video here of the new RS5 actually being driven. Make your own mind up.

To me it sounds like an asthmatic vacuum cleaner with a flatulence problem, which is a big disappointment. The styling is also too safe but it's always been that way with the RS5. You wouldn't want to pull up next to the new C63s, as I believe you'd loose on both performance and styling.

There is also an engine start up and exhaust revving at around 7mins:

Sam, there was a thread on here this week with some moaning about the B8 being beaten by 335d's (Ok maybe not beaten but couldn't get away from).

Ah ok Mike. That's what the RS6 was made for - Bahnstorming.

A well driven B7 easily keeps up with a 550PS/680Nm 5.0 supercharged V8 on a Welsh B road at "interesting" leptons

So the old V8's were no slouch

They've actually made it look worse than one of those awful Autocar images. Quite an achievement!

Another forced induction car that makes more noise on the overrun than it does when accelerating.

Hate the wheels but quite like the look and with the V6 twin turbo you all know this thing will map up nicely and when that's not enough hybrid turbo's will soon be on offer and so big power cars will start popping up so I would not worry too much just look at the B5 RS4's for inspiration, oh and just wait for them in the second-hand market so you don't have to justify the extra cost in tuning.
