WHEEL CHOICE

Post by WRS4 » Tue Feb 28, 2017 3:02 pm

I may ba after some wheels for the rs4, and as i had 20" on my m3 i am thinking of the same size, but has anyone fitted 20's ? and if so did they prefere it or would rather had stuck to 19's ?

also when i search wheel deals, the tyre size seems to be 255, is this the widest that fits the rs4 ? as i am sure i had alot wider on the m3

finally can anyone recomend a good looking wheel so i can look it up as theirs not that many that tickle my fancy

You had wider on the BM cos it is rear wheel drive. 255 is plenty on the RS4, you don't need to go wider... welcome to quattro.

Lots of owners run 20s. I couldn't tell a difference in ride between the 2 so to me it's all about the looks.

Ive ran 25+ sets on my rs4s and always ran 20s so couldn't say re ride but always thought they have taken them well.
Ive also tried 21s once and it looks rubbish as raises the centre of the car to much.

Of course you can run wider than 255s, but so fit 20s the car needs to be lower for the full effect so of course then wider
tyre becomes an issue.

As for wheel choice the world is your oyster. there has never been so much choice so how you are struggling I will never know lol.

Good point Jules, as soon as you stick a set of 20s on a standard ride height car it immediately looks too high even though the rolling radius and overall diameter is exactly the same so the car isn't any higher or lower than before.

ok great help guys, i am definitely getting 20's, so any advice on lowering then ? as in i assume you just add springs ? remember im just getting this car so doing the whole shock / damper thing may be done at a later date, would be nice to just add the springs when the wheels are fitted dont you think ?

its been a while since modying cars lol so i am rusty at all this.

Lowering; 3 options
Buy some lowering springs; will probably still leave the car with the front slightly high though.
Buy some KW adjustable springs; this retains the DRC but allows you to lower the car to your preferred height and get it level.
Buy some coilovers

Hi there,

Has to be 20's and Mike is right about the lowering I went with the KW adjustable springs so I have the car sitting exactly how I want. Ride comfort I found was better with the the new springs and did not notice and difference between the 19's and 20's in comfort

Enjoy! The Modding bug is so addictive!

275mm is almost 11", way too wide for a 8.5" wheel imo
