In reply to robf it's over valued over priced or whatever you want to call it because 60k is about 6 grand over top book price for the car regardless of extras mileage or whatever it's not about paying for a Privillage Audi are no longer a prestige brand they're mass market and very poor at customer care to boot ! I'd hazard a guess the M5/M5 Auto figures are in part a duplicate & the Competition Package numbers are certainly incorrect so some of those must be included in the M5/M5 Auto stats as an educated guess would be closer to 40% of all M5's have had the Competition Package.

The E63 racked at £67k
I had it on a personal operating lease (not PCP, more like rental) 2years, 12k per annum.
3+23 payments at £554/month including VAT. I was stunned. I signed quickly.
I nearly bought it off the end of lease but MB said they wanted £53k for it.
It went back through BCA who handle MBs lease ends apparently, sold to someone for £39k. I would have paid that happily.
You can find a load of these on the market for £40k through dealers currently.

Irony is it sold to a bloke living in North England. Three months ago I park the RS6 in Oracle car park Reading. I come back an hour later and my exact car (LL63OSE) is parked next to the RS6. Weird.
Likewise, i took my F10 M5 on CH over 3yrs ago as a 3+35, paying £630 a month with a list price of circa £76k. Was a total bargain & my payments won't have even come close to covering the depreciation over that term so in this case renting for sure paid dividends over buying.

I have the option of buying as the Hire comes to an end shortly, but decided i want a complete change & am buying the next car as not a vehicle that suffers depreciation anywhere near as badly so purchase makes more sense.

I'll be keeping an eye on what MB offer on the new E63S when they start hitting the streets though, as certainly a car that interests me somewhat.

Was just reading that very article.

Whilst i accept that every new incarnation of these & similar marques go up in price, you'd have to be very brave to spunk £102k into an E63 even if it has got 'different' paint & that's before the expensive extras such as CCB etc. An E63S with a decent discount could well be the perfect vehicle in this class, albeit until we see what the new M5 has to offer.

I'm afraid you are wrong on this mate, a car is worth where the market is at DESPITE what the book value says, it is a GUIDE only.

There are plenty of websites out there which give you insights as to the trends of a cars book price versus its sell price, the RS6 is very interesting (be it C7 or C6) as it holds its value so well.

As an example, Tootle will typically pay north of 60k for a decent example FL RS6 (as a good few members on here have proven) and the dealers are happy to make small margins to sell them on as they are popular.

I'm happy to agree with you on this from personal experience only. I sold my 1 year old FL with 10k on it to the dealer for 70k (It was 95k list and well specc'd) and still got 18% off a 97k PE. The FL car was sold within 2 days at 73k (I am told) unseen to someone who travelled 500 miles to buy it. I guess its different if you're not buying again and it depends on your relationship with the dealer. Who of course did try and tell me that these discounts and prices were more than unusual. They still did it though and I am not a great customer really.

Options, options, options.

It's what depreciation boils down too. Trade value will be the same on a base model car as it will on a £140k fully optioned car. The first owner is paying for the options in their entirety. The only thing that affects the trade value is the mileage and condition.

It's a mugs game, but if you can afford the potential huge depreciation, then option the car to the hilt and enjoy.

With regards to depreciation, I actually found the RS6 very reasonable. I just sold mine and got back just under £62k. Audi top whack in excellent condition was £58,600, advertised it on tootle and received 2 offers of £60k, 1 of £61k and another at £61,800.

I was surprised as I sold my car to an independent and it was with an Audi main dealer the week later. Up at £65.5k so there was very little profit in my car for 2 separate companies to make profit on.

I had the car 16 months, it's list price was £81k, I paid £68k and sold it for just shy of £62k. I had only done 5500 miles in the 16 months hence why it needed to go. Depreciation for me was excellent.

That's a great deal Leo. I think those that have suffered are the early buyers with Pre FL cars who paid list & will now be feeling the depreciation pain. Appears to be a sweet spot for those that bought when the heavy discounts started but are not being hit yet. Good result.

A good money saving tip is to spec the car on the original 20's, buy a set of 21's on eBay and save yourself close to £2k straight away. I bought a brand new set with tyres on eBay for £2100, sold my 20's for £1850. The wheels were swapped at the dealership before I picked up the car. 21's for a few hundred quid rather than the £2k Audi were wanting. Audi sports exhaust, what's the point? Put an aftermarket catback on and recoup that cost when you resell the exhaust on.

Performance edition RS6 makes more sense than normal RS6 as the residual values will remain higher on the PE's to take into account the 'added options' that make up the PE. On the normal RS6 these are lost, on the PE, you have value in them.

It's Audi's marketing strategy with + models, black edition models etc.

This new RS5 wants to hurry up and make an appearance, getting speed withdrawals already

Thanks for all the tips and comments folks - as always, some great advice on this forum

I've just done a deal to swap the RS6 for a Sepang blue RS + cash. Pretty happy with the deal and looking forward to getting the new toy next week

p.s. if anyone is after a full set of OEM 21" x 9.5J 5-twin-spoke design alloy wheels (silver) with 285/30 R21 winter tyres give me a shout!

RS what? What's the new toy?

I'm in pretty much the same position where looking at trade-in prices I'm at pretty much zero equity in the car but also want to lower my monthly payments. The car is going on for an oil change Monday so might have a chat with Audi about what deal they could offer on trade-in if I traded down to something they have in stock (not going the new car route again, takes too long and the depreciation isn't worth getting your own spec).

Ooops,

Yep, should have said a RS3 - thanks for clarifying Mike :D

I've been driving my wife's RS3 over the last couple of weeks and it is really grin inducing. Much more of a B-road blast without having to get into silly numbers before you feel like you are hustling along. Interior not quite as grand as the RS6 (obviously) but that alcantara steering wheel is a lovely interface with the car. This one has tech pack, comfort pack, sunroof and the dynamic pack so ticks pretty much all of the toys I was after.

It's a bit Harold and Hilda having the same car as the missus, although given mine is in Sepang, most folks I know probably won't even know I've changed my car... just assumed it's shrunk a bit given all the rain up here.
The fact I'll save £20 a year on vehicle tax and get better fuel consumption will surely make up for the caning I got buying a new car and chopping in after 11 months!!! (said very much tongue in cheek) :bash:

Still, you're only here once and I like cars, so I'll take the hit and enjoy the new car when I pick it up next week.
