Headlight

Post by rickster147 » Tue Dec 20, 2016 10:04 am

Started car this morning and main os dipped main bulb out
Now is it a bumper off job or can you do it without removal of the bumper?
I'll change them both while I'm at it to 6000k
If I have to take bumper off I might take the orange indicator cover out of the head light and put some chrome bulbs in its place
Are the main bulbs d1s?
What type of bulb are the front indicators also?
Any one have a bumper removal guide?
Thanks in advance

I think it is a bumper off job but let someone else confirm that, I know a couple of the guys have fitted new bulbs recently. Maybe hit Trups up on here, he'll be able to answer and help you with any globes you need.

Here is a decent guide I've used a few times - http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthrea ... er-Removal

Make sure you've got all the tools listed including the long torx driver.

Yes it's a bumper off job...
I have done it probably 30+ times on both my b7 and it takes me 10-15 min but man you should hear me swear at Audi every time I do this....

Anyhow, removing is actually easier than installing.
1) jack the car (taking the wheels makes it slightly easier but not essential)
2) remove all holding pins/bolts underneath 5/7 of them I think.
3) remove 3 bolts at top of the grill
And loosen 2 bolts at the adjusters.
4) remove some bolts for the lining of each wheel enough for you to reach inside the arch with very long extension and 10mm socket. I use 10inch flex to witch I attach 10mm socket and also 5 inch solid extension on 1/8 ratchet. Shine a torch inside the arch and you can see 2 bolts holding the bumper. Remove!
5) now unclip both sides of bumper (just pull gently each side and you will see what I mean.)
6) now Remove bumper. But be careful it's heavier than you think. Also don't forget about wires ant washer pipes.

Install is the reversal. But a lot more amusing ;)
Enjoy!

I have changed the drivers side bulb, without removing the bumper. It's roughly a 20 mins job. The hardest part is manoeuvering the airbox out, once that's done it's seconds after that.

Passenger side can be done too I've read without bumper removal, it's a case of removing all the pipework that's in the way(power steering and housing).

I've read that too but think I'll go the bumper route as have changed my drl to trups lights and only just managed to do those but my hands was bleeding from the tight access had to undo the drivers side drl with a screw driver and a hammer as I have biggish hands
