Book value
Book value
I've been looking for a B7 RS4 for a while now
I recently saw one advertised at a dealer, 4-5 owners, FSH, 61000 miles, bucket seats and flat bottom steering wheel etc.
Dealer wanted 22k and refused to budge (I know that they bought it for far less as I found a decent ad)
Put the Reg and mileage etc. into autotrader and parkers and it came out nowhere near 22k
So, how can I accurately price a RS4 if dealers are asking more than what the book value appears to be

as stupid as it sounds
if you want to buy cars at book price, go and buy cars from the auction
do you really not understand that a car dealer is a BUSINESS, i.e. they add value to the car (in the form of prep, warranty, finance options etc) and then they need to make a profit to feed their kids
even if a dealer bought the car for £5k, if they believe they can get £22k for it in the open market, then why should they budge on it
so, good luck at the auction

I'm asking for advise nothing moreHYFR wrote:is this a wind up ?
What's the point of the valuations autotrader/parkers offer if it's no good?

Do parkers sell cars then ???Wotsirb wrote:Buy the car from parkers then...
Re: Book value
All dealers are wankers, full stop. In my experience, they want your car for nothing and then sell it for loads more.Gsedge1 wrote:I'm asking for advise nothing moreHYFR wrote:is this a wind up ?
Tell them to fuckk off and buy a decent one from a member

Re: Book value
I understand that a business needs to make a profit and they can ask any price they want (as can a private seller) and there's an arse for every seatHYFR wrote:Wotsirb wrote:Buy the car from parkers then...

Re: Book value
The easiest way I can explain it is this:
Autotrader/Parkers etc all get paid based on people using their services, if their services told you your PX was worth less than you wanted, would you then ever use them again or would you tell everyone it was rubbish.
I work in the trade and unfortunately these valuation systems are always to help a buyer (or give perceived help), however specialist vehicles such as RS4's will not be measurable against a computer screen statistic as its not reflective of the actual market place.
Hope this helps!

Re: Book value
The p/x price at both auto trader/parkers came back at roughly what I thought my car was worth so that's what really confused me
The car hasn't sold yet so what does that say
Like I said, I'm not on here to be made to feel a c*nt so HYFR get off your keyboard unless you actually feel like using your experience to help rather than mock?

Oh, and thanks for the reply Toby
Re: Book value
the B7 RS 4 is a old, and niche car
the online valuations will link to CAP. CAP stands for current auction prices
so they reflect the hammer price in the auctions
put an RS 4 in an auction and thats what it will achieve
but a niche car such as RS 4 will vary hugely on spec (buckets, flat bottom wheel), condition (stone chipped, DRC, FASH), colour (Silver vs. Sprint Blue)
so the CAP values don't really reflect the true open market value as if a dealer has a good spec, good condition, right colour car - he will hold out for top money
and the CAP to Retail spread on this type of car will vary according to the spec, price and condition given their rarity and niche
it is not unusual for a car to take 60 days + to sell before dealer will start to break sweat
On a boggo Fiesta, expect a CAP to Retail premium of £1,000 - £2,000
on a B7 RS 4, expect £2,000 - £8,000 depending on spec condition
on a V10 R8, expect £5,000 - £12,000 depending on spec condition
on a McLaren MP4-12C expect £10,000 - £20,000 depending on Spec, condition

Right on the money, or not as CAP may be, CAP has a place but its not in specialist carsHYFR wrote:the B7 RS 4 is a old, and niche car

Re: Book value
Tell the dealer I want £30k for mine, but if he wants it he can have it for £35k.
When I sell my cars I study the sites and a gauge the price accordingly. The same when buying, including from dealers and I never ever ever take any dealer bullshit. If you like the car buy it.

Guys, thanks for the replies
All I want is to learn and to be able to know what to look for etc.
Not looking for an argument or any keyboard warriors just trying to learn......
