Problem is I think happy thoughts all day long. It means I spend half my life in that bathroom.

Well I dropped off the RS at my local Audi dealer to have a look at the exhaust flaps that are always open.. including when the car engine is off and when it's ticking over in sport or non sport.

Initial thoughts from the master tech. ..

The exhaust flaps should be open during these times.
He also mentioned the kick at 5.5rpm isn't really noticeable as the power delivery is very linear. He asked do I get any warning lights? Does the engine idle rough/lumpy?

I told him no, it does seem to run very well just that I don't feel that kick?

I called the Audi dealer I bought the RS from who also did a health check on it before I bought it and they advised the same about the exhaust flaps.

I think I've either mis read how the flaps should work?

Are they telling you that on tickover the sport button will have no affect on the flaps? :audibash:

They are supposed to be open when the engine is off; they need the vaccum from the engine to close hence why disconnecting the hoses means they stay open.

However, when the engine is on and ticking over at normal revs (not cold start high revs) pressing the Sport button should see the flaps opening and closing as you cycle from sport to non sport and back again (obviously open when in sport and closed when not). You should be able to hear the difference and see them move if you get down on your knees. The tech cannot dispute this, it's fact. If they don't close when ticking over with sport mode off, there is a problem.

When does the "master tech" think they should close?

Ah right. ... that's what I thought when I looked. Whether with sport on or off at tick over they are open. I've not seen them closed yet.

He says they'll be open as they need a vacuum build up.

Its with them still as they said to give me peace of mind they'll have a visual look around and check all the flaps as part of a free health check.

I'm going to pop back after work to see what's what

He's right that they need a vacuum, but this takes about a second to build up, its pretty much instantaneous.

Well just got the workshop send me a video!

It's had the exhaust flap mod done and they've said £1836 to rectify unless the selling dealer covers the cost.

Tbh not sure if I should get it done as I do like the sound unless a new rear box brings more than just that?

Was it main dealer? If so I would of thought they would have to sort it.
Shouldn't sell a car that is not mechanically working properly. No one in they're right mind would spend that on an oem exhaust.
Did you question them about their lack of knowledge of they're product.. Master tech my arse....
