This sounds a little whiffy to me. If any of you fancy staying the night at my house, feel free. The little 4 cylinder sh*tboxes that drive to the redline as soon as they hit our house is testament to how little the police pay attention to exhausts.

If the law was that strict this wouldn't be "allowed" to happen.

However, on the rare occasion a v8 goes past singing it's not annoying in the slightest! X piping mine as soon as possible lol!

I had my centre resonators removed a couple of months back and went for straight pipes instead of an x-pipe.

Reason being was I had a non-res scorpion system fitted (for all of one day) that had an x-pipe and the car sounded like a straight 6...... which for me was no good.

I think the exhaust pulses mixing at the x-pipe was what caused the V8 rumble to be lost, either that or that was just how that exhaust sounded.

Straight centre pipes retains the V8 note, just louder with pops and crackles. Bassy and dirty :-)

Best mod ever!

Interesting... What did you pay for the straight pipes?

About £300. Some people have had it done cheaper, depends on where you go I guess.

Had a look under the car and the guys work was faultless.

They did say an x-pipe would have given me a few extra bhp but I really wanted to keep the sound.

MikeFish has had more exhaust systems on his RS4 than I have had cars, so if he was happy with straight pipe/res delete then that was good enough for me!

a x pipe will not make your rs4 sound like a straight six, that must just have been that exhaust. my full jhm exhaust sounds unreal with a proper x pipe and it actually increases power!, best of both worlds

You can still hear the exhaust over the supercharger whine?!!! :-)

Full JHM system still top of my list if I ever get around to changing out the whole thing.

How is the throttle responce on the JHM map over the stock map? I fancy doing it but don't want something too sharp.

I must say this is one of my favourite topics. I've been an official RS4 owner for about 24 hours, but have been researching the experience for the past six months. As the owner of a few V8s in the past (including an LS3 Boss Hoss) I have very much missed the fantastic aural pleasure of eight angry pistons tearing at their con rods, and while I've been thrilled with every accelerative burst so far, there's no question in my mind that quite a few more of these very refined German dBs need to be freed. With no JCWF this side of the pond, the consensus seems to be on the JHM 2.75 setup.

That being said, I am tempted by a used Capristo system, if anyone else wanted to chime in either way...?

I've got a Jc Weldfab and it replaced a non res, non valved milly. With the valves closed and driving sensibly it's a little quieter than the milly. With the valves open at high revs it's way louder. I've never had any issues with police but that may just be down to luck.
When I had a 458 I've had police ask me to rev the nuts off it.

I always wanted to run a Capristo on the B7 RS4, the tips alone are just awesome!
