So, latest update - the car's back at JC Weldfab today, for a couple of weeks while I take the family on hols
As the undertray got destroyed on the way back from the RS246 Scotland roadtrip, and looking around forums it seemed to be a common thing, it got me thinking about looking for a metal replacement.
The car's lowered, and I'm always going over speed bumps, and I've also still got the mental scars in mind from taking out the sump of my old Mk4 golf GTi on a speed bump that I hadn't seen, and my wife's mk5 golf gti's sump getting killed by my brother in law at a trackday. So some metal down there would provide some peace of mind.
As any cricketer will tell you, protecting your undercarriage is very important!
There are a couple of options available in the US (e.g. the "panzer" plate, or the diesel geek plate on the link below), however they're made for the B7 A4 and S4 don't have all the holes to line up with the RS4's cooling ducts. Then there's the cost of shipping a large slab of metal.

This is what the RS4 OEM undertray looks like:
So, nothing easily available that ticks all the boxes, I contacted Robin at JC Weldfab to ask them if they can do it, and the answer was yes! They'll be making the plate from a single piece of aluminium, with some laser cut holes for the cooling ducts. They plan to add some rolled beads for strength. I've also asked them to include a provision to be able to do oil changes without removing the whole plate. I did recommend to them too that they template it when done, as others may want one too.
Anyway, I've said bye to the car, and I'll see it again in a couple of weeks and report back. Hopefully I might get some pics in progress, and if so I'll post them up here.
