Its so funny the way everyone defends the car they currently own then when they sell it the next car is the best ever. its only metal and rubber its not like its family.

A car is a car, go drive them and have fun. I agree stats are nothing other than pub talk, driving, fun and enjoyment that what its all about!!!

is my RS3 the best car ever? Of course its not but its fast(ish) fun, frugal, practical and loads I can do with it. I am happy for now.

My dad's is a Gen 1 991 so the naturally aspirated model.

A bit like the 911 Turbo vs R8 V10+ debate, in the 'real world' the 911 will be quicker because it is turbocharged. No downshifts needed, it will just go in any gear.

As Jeremy Clarkson once said, these days you need a REALLY, REALLY quick car to embarrass your average car these days. The turbocharged 2.0TDI repmobiles will get to 120mph easily and have that in-gear shove to accelerate rapidly between 65-85mph whilst you are left fumbling for the right gear in the likes of a B8 RS4 (or any other naturally aspirated sports car). Yes, they run out of puff pretty quickly, but that means you have to be doing well over 100mph to actually demonstrate your RS4 is quicker.

Not knocking the RS4, but it's just a reason why i love the RS6 - any time, any place, it's laugh out loud quick!

I don't disagree with you, the C4S will corner and lap quicker than the RS6, no doubts about it. The RS6 was never designed to be quick in the corners though

The new R8 V10+ is an animal with independent tests getting as low as 2.5 0-60.

Again check out the stats for the 991.1 / 991.2 and the new R8 V10+

R8 V10+ out accelerates the new 991.2 Turbo S in every element, not by much but it's the quicker car.

0-60 in 2.5s in R8 V10+
0-60 in 2.6 in 991.2 Turbo S

0-100 in 5.9secs in R8 V10+
0-100 in 6.1secs in 991.2 Turbo S

0-150 in 15.1 in R8 V10+
0-150 in 15.5 in 991.2 Turbo S

0-186mph (300kmh) in 28.8 in R8 V10+
0-186mph (300kmh) in 29.5 in 991.2 Turbo S

991.2 Turbo S does have a higher top speed, 207mph vs 205mph.

The R8 V10+ is pretty much identical to the Lamborghini Huracan which mirrors the R8 V10 all the way through.

Of course, these are just straight line acceleration stats but I'd put my money on the R8 being quicker than the 991 Turbo S around the track too.

It's lost it's crown I'm afraid, the new R8 is an absolute gem and nothing like the Mk1 cars. Both come in at the same price point, if I were in a position to buy either or, I'm really not sure where my money would go.

Where on earth have you picked those R8 stats from Leo?

The Internet is a wash with comparisons & every test of the new 991.2 TTS shows on paper i think it's 2.8 but in reality 2.5/6 to 62 & this is rumoured to be not to upset 918 buyers so the paper stats were lifted. As for the R8 V10 Plus, i've yet to see any test where they've got below 3.0 secs to 62 & like doodle i've had extended drives in both cars & my findings mirror the press. Fastestlaps appears to have got a time below 3.0secs, but no idea on circumstances or setup, so purely looking at the usual journos tests the 2 cars appear to have daylight between them.

That said, the R8 got very close to getting my order as is an epic car & being brutally honest offers up a little more drama than the Porsche, but performance is 100% not a point that the R8 won, although in the real world it's hardly slow & wouldn't be that far behind.

Hi Leo, i have & i'm not seeing the same unless i missed something. I also posted the 991.1 as reference. Some anomalies in Fastestlaps judging by the stats when looked at side by side, but i certainly don't see the R8 quicker in every element & let's be honest the R8's times on here have not according to what i can see ever been matched in any road test, whereas the 991TTS does these time & time again. Perhaps similar in some ways to how Nissan present the GT-R's numbers.

With technology in cars advancing fast 420bhp isnt really powerfull these days. if you spend 20k or 30k on a nice motor like a b7 rs4 be prepared to get embarrased by the likes of a megane sport like i did in mine .thats why im now looking for summit nearer 550bhp..i mean for christ sake audi is bringing out a SUV thats got 430bhp which is the new SQ7 and to make it worse its a bloody oil burner!!! ..whats the world coming to?

Power is great, but weight is more and more of a factor nowadays. My 6 has 565bhp, but it also weighs 2.2 tonnes so a mapped RS3 would likely pull away. And the 6, despite handling it's mass very well, is far from a nimble sports car. It's a big lazy cruiser that also happens to have tremendous straight line ability should you feel the need.

I'd say if it's a toy you're after, look for 1400kg max and 400bhp will be plenty (easily achieved with a 2.0 and a turbo). Add lightness for acceleration and handling, add power for top end speed.

S2000 with a supercharger would tick the boxes, but isn't 4wd. Think that'll be my next project once I tire of the Mini.
