A new RS4 owner worrying the s-tronic

Post by kithng » Sun Jul 10, 2016 7:38 pm

Hi all,

A new RS4 owner from Hong Kong and I'm new here.

Bought a used 2013 RS4 avant with 11000 Km on the clock.

I have had bad experience with dog transmission 8 years ago (mechatronic replaced twice). Now I'm started a bit paranoid about the s-tronic.

My friend said: you already bought it, so just enjoy it.

Just want to see if there are any reliability issue with s-tronic.

Should I change fluid more regularly?

Any tips on keeping the transmission in top condition?

Thanks and please forgive my English.

Kith

I am going through gearbox faults on mine at the minute. Might see me getting rid of it in the near future if its something silly.

Is your RS4 a B8? Would you elaborate more? what kind of gearbox faults?

Thanks

Thanks

You've bought the car so if there is no issue with your gearbox why worry? All you'll hear is the odd horror story from the minority and not the majority who have had no issues. I drove my B8 RS4 hard for 17,000 miles with no issues.

Mines an RS5 58000 on the clock. Comes up with gearbox malfunction which on further investigation is showing position sensor fault. Going back in Monday for further fault diagnosis. Most of the sensors are in the mechatronics unit which audi don't open just replace to the tune of 5-6K or if its really bad 14K for a new gearbox. I am happy to be a minority but after being another car that has had cat fails around 50K miles and them costing 5k I am beginning to wonder if I am unlucky or it just that it is my everyday car and I am racking up 12-15k miles a year and others may have all this to come.

I reckon the gearbox is a weak link for sure, I'm just glad I've still got 2 years warranty

The only thing about the gearbox that sort of worries me is the amount of times I knock the gearshift down from Drive to Sport and then back to Drive.
Its there so i guess its there to be used!
Personally though I wouldn't worry about it, follow the service schedule and enjoy it.
