Just got rear ended!

Post by audi_driver79 » Fri Jun 24, 2016 6:46 pm

Car stopped for no reason and 2 others behind it but obviously the fella behind me couldn't resulting in this!

Looks like I'll be getting the whole bumper resprayed and the chrome at the bottom of the tailgate is dented plus a bit of paint right of the badge. I have it on camera but only forward facing. Bloody annoying but I will probably just settle it with the old fella if he pays for a respray. Exhaust is fine but I had better get it checked and will probably upload the vid if it's worth it. :boohoo:

Bad news dude, If I was you I'd get the rear bumper off it and check the back panel , chances are there's gonna be some damage . No doubt that the cross member will have done it's job and folded up . With them being aluminium and off an rs6 they won't be cheap either .

Been thinking and I don't know if I should get a quote from Audi as well as a couple of reputable bodyshops. ..

Always get a quote from a main dealer and a couple of top bodyshops. If it were a £1k focus that's one thing, but you want a proper colour match and to make sure there's no further damage. Nothing worse than seeing a nice motor with a panel that's almost the right colour, but not quite.

Yeah the quarters will need blending for colour although some may not,Then blame the mis matching colour on the fact it's a plastic panel .

Tell me about it and I have to get it done before AITP too. I'm going to Audi to get a quote in the morning and if he says hes not going to play ball then insurers it will be. Mind you I've seen a couple of posts on here about dodgy resprays from dealers so I hope they aren't going to do a shoddy job!

The video is extremely boring and you can tell the point he shunted me and I left a massive gap between me and the next car! Luckily you can hear me talking to him afterwards so if he denied it I have that although the sound isn't great, another reason not to upload is me swearing right after he hits too but I think you can forgive me for that!!!

Social media is great for finding out what company's are actually like as it's not filtered , so if someone has had a bad job then then you will happily post it all over the company's pages . But just remember not many people share thoughts on a great job, But everyone does with a bad job . Take it from experience, I work on maybe 100 cars in a month 4-5 a year may have slight issues . They are the people too write you a review of how terrible you are. 9 time out of ten it's because you didn't do extra work or extra scratches "while you have paint in the gun could you just ......". I wish it was as easy as that. Do your homework, dealers will come with a big price jump as we all know and too be fair It isn't warranted. There are plenty of very good independent bodyshops more than capable of doing the job too a high standard . Then there are some that are not so capable . Look for a well established company, you don't last in this trade ifor your sh*t . I'd more than happily get it into my work if your close enough.

Happened to me last November. Claim off his insurance if he doesn't want to pay you direct. They should contact you directly as soon as he informs them and admits liability, they like to do this as it keeps costs down for replacement cars etc.

Thanks for the replies guys,

Audi said they couldn't do anything today as their bodyshop was closed at Teesside but that could have been due to the fact that they seem to be busy with prospective customers rather then check out my 13 year old car!

I have an idea of a couple of closer bodyshops but as per the link one of the closest Audi approved to me is the garage where my dad and brother bought their current cars so we already know them. I'm just hoping I can get it done by AITP8 as otherwise I will have to get a marker and draw 'Ouch' on my rear bumper. Mind you those that see me will remember me. Anyway now going to wait for insurers to ring me tomorrow.....

Sorry that was yesterday morning I went I just wrote that's after midnight. I spoke to Admiral today and they said if I go through Albany to get the car fixed they will organise everything. However if I choose my own garage it will go against my NCB until the other party admits liability and I will have to pay the £400 excess but will get it back later on. The problem is my renewal is in 2 weeks and now they are going to penalise me for wanting my own garage when it a non fault accident. That doesn't seem fair to me!

Happy Days!
His insurers accepted liability so they will take the quote I get from my own garage and get it authorised and give me a like for like courtesy car. Hopefully my renewal wont be affected considerably..
