Re: Exhausts!! It's time!! Which One :-)

Re: Exhausts!! It's time!! Which One :-)
RE the delay - the B8 system has been much harder to prototype than the B7 for some reason. The JC Weldfab boys have worked hard (and I mean hard) - we've done 4 complete systems on my car, including 2 designs of backbox, tested straight, H and X pipes, two types of centre resonator, and several lengths of anti-res front boxes - each change needing running in and miles on it, then assessment and retrial. The guys have probably put 100+ hours and thousands of pounds into this exhaust, and I've given them the car for over 8 weeks (on and off), with over 10k miles on various prototype systems. Those boys have done so much research and development on this it's unreal.
Please cut them some slack - they're not a mass producing company churning out middle rate exhaust systems like Miltek. They're making the very best system they can, that fits better than anything else on the market and sounds as good as possible, with as little unwanted noise as possible, and they're doing it on a car they only have access to when I let them have it. It's been a challenge!
My car has been with JC Weldfab again for the last week, and the system was (in principle) completed last week. We're just going to test for another week or so to make sure nothing untoward happens, and it's ready. The system has been fully computerised as of Monday so can now be replicated on the tube bender now it's finished. Once I report back in a week or so that I'm happy that nothing has changed, they'll make them available to the public.
The system is the best I've ever heard regarding the balance of noise Vs drone. Valves closed, in comfort, it's approximately the same as a stock sports system in dynamic. Valves open in dynamic, it's a beast.
I'll try and get some videos of it now it's done this week. You should be able to start ordering within the next week or so.

Hey Ross,
I have to say, regardless of who or what JCFW are, the stats you give are what you would expect for something like this, I don't think the comment re timings is harsh, it's a an honest observation. This thread started in July last year, over 10 months ago & the B8 RS4 is now almost 4 years old. I'm sure they're doing a great job both developing the system and they're going to be looking after you with regards to what you're paying for it also (because of the time and effort you are putting in with the loan of your car etc). However, I think it would have made sense if some of the startings of the development with JCFW and their system for the B8 had been kept under wraps for their benefit alone. I have no idea how long Capristo, Milltek & Akro take to develop their systems, but they are all on the market and have been for ages with their offerings. Hindsight eh......
On a separate point, of all the systems available in the UK, how many have you physically witnessed on a B8 RS4? I only ask as you're making quite a claim here:
However, if you've only ever heard a Milltek .vs stock for example, it becomes an utterly moot point.....
No offence, just trying to see things from both sides of the coin.

Re: Exhausts!! It's time!! Which One :-)
In the flesh, I've heard stock, stock sports, miltek, and a capristo. I didn't have to live with them obviously so can't comment on drone on the capristo obviously.
Other points duly noted re development. However, for someone like Miltek it's easy - they buy an RS4 when it's released, build the system and test within a few weeks because they can devote resource dedicated specifically to it, then release it quickly. Small independent suppliers don't have that luxury hence products take longer to get to market :/
Either way - it's now an option. If the fact ti's taken a year to get to market is a problem for some people, fair enough. I'd rather wait for something to be good than make a snap decision and buy poorer quality, but that's just me!

Re: Exhausts!! It's time!! Which One :-)
The thing is the capristo has no drone any revs any where and and in any gear mine has around 2000 miles on it now and getting more impressive every time ! And claims of jc being the best fit are totally unfounded and surely matter of opinion ! Mine fitted perfectly of of the box I can take it to any capristo retailer world wide and they'll fix any warranty issues if any ever arrive or I can post back to jc or drive around 500 miles if there's a fault !! For me it just can't be the holy grail of exhausts !! I admire that u have given them your car for so much R&D ( it wouldn't be me ) but these times are probably drop in the ocean to what the big guns spend and time they invest ! I hope it's all you ever want out a system I really do but its the most wanted system on this poll for all the wrong reasons

I was decided to go into Akrapovic. I have read all threads, watched all youtube videos and had 2 lucky testdrives of Milltek and Akrapovic, and decided to order Capristo next month. For all the right reasons

Tiny teaser of a video I'm putting together of how the JC WeldFab system sounds... I wish a compressed video did it justice. You can feel it in your chest when the valves are open...

I think this is one of them you have to hear in person to appreciate.

Sounds awesome Ross!
I bet those downshifts are addictive.
Have you had any experience with the B7 system? If so, how does it compare?

For me, exhausts on RS cars are mainly for sound reasons. The choice in exhaust will primarily be based on how good it sounds, then on quality and price. So if a exhaust sounds better (subjective), is equal quality and a fraction of the price why is that the wrong reason?
Or are your comments aimed at the akra? I'm a little confused as you sound like you are all saying the JC is not as good as the Capristo or Akra and it is the most popular for the wrong reasons (whatever that means) but the akra is the most popular by far?
I just don't get the fascination with the akra. I don't like the sound (ok some of you do) and think they are way over priced and offer no performance gain. Or do people pick them cos they are the most expensive and assume this must mean it is the best exhaust?

I'd avoid any titanium exhaust regardless of make personally (unless weight really is an issue). Lighter yes. But weaker and fragile.
