Re: how to - door mirror removal
Just wanted to bump this thread and add my thanks! Used the guide here (and some words of wisdom from Sam) to swap mirrors over.
The trim removal tools are a necessity IMO, got a set off amazon cheap.
A can of dry lube helps get the base plate back under the rubber seal.

Waiting for my Speedlines back from getting re-done in titanium as well. Plus the car is filthy at the moment!

Re: how to - door mirror removal
Ok, I give in. How the hell do you get it back together? The problem that I'm having is getting the motor mount attached to the car. So, I've fed the wiring through, presented the mirror casing with the motor mount to the the car, aligned everything up, but I can't get enough purchase to force the mount over the clips as they're just too stiff.
Is there a particular method or is it just a case of persevering?
Cheers,
Bryan

Re: how to - door mirror removal
I make sure that it's all re-assembled and that popping it back onto the door mount is the very last thing. Clean up the posts with some wire wool/bush and apply a bit of silicone lube, then it's just a question of lining it up and giving it a good shove with some body weight behind it.

Re: how to - door mirror removal
I think you're probably right Sam, but the problem for me is that two of the posts that the screws holding the motor mount go into, snapped off when unscrewing them out. I don't want to break the last two or it's curtains. I've almost pefected keeping it still while lining it up and shoving on, but not quite. Will persevere.

Bryan

Re: how to - door mirror removal
Ok I can see why you’re trying to be a little more delicate. I'd clean/lube up both the posts and receivers to try help getting the mirror assembly to slip on easily.

Re: how to - door mirror removal
I found it easiest to assemble the mirror and the triangle on the ground (on a suitable surface) and then offer the lot up to the car - the big bolt can then be used with a turn or so to keep it on the door if needed - when need a rest or something.
The rubber trim was a big fight even with plenty of lube etc. but didn't have an issue getting the two bits to attach.
If you haven't removed the triangle and aren't replacing them - DON'T - just get the angle right on the clips with the mirror - it is designed to "break away" when struck by another car so needs to go back at a similar angle.

I did the same. Reassembled the triangle and mirror case on the ground prior to reinstalling. Mind you. I also took the whole assembly off together and separated them by holding the triangle in a vice (whilst wrapped in a rag) and giving the mirror case a bloody good jerk. Prior to that I wasn't having much success with the trim removal tools!!!
Re: how to - door mirror removal
One trick I've discovered working in an un-heated garage during the winter, compared with that same un-cooled garage in the summer, is that plastic trim is easier to work with when warm. You might consider gingerly using a heat gun to warm it up, make it a bit more flexible.
