Speeding fines

After 27 years of driving, just got my first NIP through the post, 77 in a 60.... anybody know anything about the law, just before the detector sounded, a <beep> in an Alfa overtook me on a double white line, and is visible in the first photo, which was taken at 603 metres. No signs warning of cameras, no high visibility van, just a bloke with his motorbike hidden under a bridge support.............Any body know a good Solicitor who specialises in matters such as these, cant understand how they got me when I was directly behind another car???????????

bad luck! is it true the police generally leave speeding overtaking cars alone? Also i'm seeing more and more cars overtake on double lines!

Bad luck. With the complications it sounds as if you may have the vestige of a case. Have a look at www.5ive-0.org. It has a lot of intersting correspondence on the site from (at least some) people who seem to know.

Are you sure ?!?!?

Secondly, 77 in a 60. Now you really are having a laugh - were you low on petrol or something

Sorry to hear that mate, and hope you have some recourse due to the other car in the picture.
What are they claiming, 3 points & 60 quid fine ?
If it is your first one it could be a whole lot easier just to bend over and take it...

Can you see the number plate of the Alfa + was it taken with him straddling the white lines, or had it already made it back across?

Yep its 27 years and the 77 was in the new truck which only had a few hundred miles on it so I was going easy
Tried to copy and paste the picture off the Wiltshire wooden tops site but it wont let me, they have blitzed the number plate on the Alfa and it is on the correct side of the road. Spoke to Freemans in Manchester and they would fight it, not sure what the fine and points are going to be....... I would think 4 as it was over 15 mph over limit , but their fees are going to be ten times the fine with no guarentee of squashing it. Think it is time to take up the rear end

Be aware that it does get looked at by the 'law' when posting incidents and the advice usually needs a lot of prep on your part to achieve anything.

I've got a copy - think you may be very surprised.
But a good solicitor is well worth it, a mate was caught at 102 on the M2 and "got off" with 6 points and £ 500 fine....legal fees of £ 750 - which could be preferable to losing your licence.

Apprently they cannot just set up anywhere in the hope to catch people, there must be due justification to police a certain position/stretch of road - a case for entrapment ??
