Seems unlikely that the advice you have been given is accurate. Order books are now open in Germany and the PE rims are not available there. Yes, we know the press cars had them, but it would be unusual if 'all markets' were offered items at launch that were unavailable in Germany. Guess we will see in the coming days.

The 400bhp engine is quite impressive on paper, but I personally wasn't that enamoured when I drove one. You can feel every single one of its 2400 kilos. It's not rapid or urgent. It's more of a wafter, which for me along with the non-sporty interior whiffed a bit too much of piss & slippers.
That's ultimately what these cars are wafters which is normally what you want 9 times out of 10. But if of poke is fine - I really can't see the point of things like the porka or RR svr.

But each to their own......

But, if you're me (or the OP) and you have a large family to cart around and have speed in your veins, you want that giggle factor with your family wagon, so what else do you buy?

I want to waft, but the amount of times I want to waft is outweighed by me wanting to be thrown back in my seat when I stamp on the loud pedal. I test drove the 3.0TDi, and yes it would more than suffice, but I need to giggle and grin. The Cayenne Turbo, RRSVR, GL63 and SQ7 exist because of people like us, just like the RS6 exists for people like you.

For me the SQ7 probably makes most sense, you cannot really expect them to go too far beyond super-cruise. Cayenne Turbo (watch the options) would be the better handling option. GL63 would be a total no. Love that engine but the GL is just plain old and cumbersome these days, even with AMG's magic sprinkles. RRSVR is wonderful but still handles a little to heavily and drinks like a dublin landlord ! Most of the large petrol SUV's are not generally designed for us are they ? They are mostly to service petrol burning markets like the US, LA, SF, Boston, NY, Middle East etc etc. Petrol is still cheap and so volume exists?

A big diesel like the SQ7 gives really good pickup once you dial out the turbo moment in your driving style. The SQ5 looked very interesting when i was looking at the RS6 but in the end the petrolhead in me won over.

I like the look of it on the PE wheels, it gives it a far better stance.

Alot of these cars are not 7 seaters - for instance a RRS Supercharged can be had as 7 seater, the SVR cannot
A X5 can be had with 7 seats in any model except for the X5M
So you are limited.....
GL63 just looks like a dinsaur
We actually had a sit in an XC90 today - have to say its a lovely place to be. Masses of space, light and airy, great dashboard
Its the future of cars - nothing to do with the pleasure of actually driving

We've had a RR supercharged sport and an ML63 - and as much as they are quick for a 10tn truck they are no fast estate or whatever else you may liken them too.

And as another poster has a learnt highlight not all are 7 seaters

Surprised no one has mentioned the Q7 being the ugliest car on sale? Looks like something SSangYong would bring out!

Never seen the point in performance SUVs. My dad has a Cayenne diesel and it's a nice car, but just when you think the handling isn't too bad, you jump in something like a boggo Golf and it feels like you're driving a Caterham in comparison! That's ultimately why i ordered the RS6; same practicality but it can actually go round corners.

I went in an Lotus Elan Sprint today. Down one of my favourite country roads, the B660. Went round corners like I wouldn't believe. On 155 section period design tyres

7 seats in the RS6? Nope
Three isofix seats in the back of an RS6? Nope
Two isofix and an adult in comfort in the back of an RS6? Nope
Double buggy and a medium sized dog in the boot of an RS6? Nope
The missus, 2(or 3) kids, a double buggy, a medium sized dog and all the luggage required for a long weekend away, in a RS6? Nope.

I could go on. You obviously haven't been to see the new Q7. The RS6 is only a smidgen larger than the 4, the Q7 is massive it's one of the biggest on sale today, and I don't mean litres, I mean usable floor and space areas.

Even the new Passat estate is bigger than the 6.

This is from somebody who's owned a C7, owned a B8, and will likely be moving to a Q7.

As I said, these things exist for a reason.

I am coming to this all very late
Up till now I have been a fast estate guy - loved them
Hated SUVs
Now we have 3 kids and a 4th on the way, they make sense
I have seen the light

Would I choose one over an RS6 to go for a sunday drive on my own? No
But, whisper it, there are a number of cars I would choose over an RS6 for a Sunday drive

The RS6 is a magnificent compromise
As is a SQ7

Is that the first S model to come with an RS exhaust? Or does it mean the flat ovals like the current A6 has?
