RS6 Standard vs PE

Post by Seacube » Thu May 12, 2016 4:18 pm

I've had my RS6 for a year now and am very happy with it. I'm now toying with the idea of upgrading to a PE, but I've not seen any in-depth comparison of the two. Has anyone here owned both and if so can you say whether the difference is enough to warrant upgrading, particularly with regard to performance (I already have the sports exhaust)? Thanks.

When I dyno'd mine at MRC it had between 605 and 612ps. Normal RS6s dyno there at about 580-590ps so the difference in peak ps is minimal. on 2 of the runs it read about 775nm but on the middle run it was 888nm. Not sure what the normal ones actually (as opposed to Audi figures).
I test drove a normal one but there was 3 or 4 months between test drive and me opening mine up properly so hard to say if there was any difference. I think mine pulls a lot harder at the slower speeds but can't say for sure.
Also, peak power / torque is only one element, the Performance might have a bigger power / torque difference elsewhere in the range? Or maybe even less?

I certainly can't see why you'd chop one for the other incurring a massive cost in the process.

No Alcantara head lining. Shoddy.

I thought Audi had simply modified the gearbox map to change up at a fraction higher rpm and increased the boost very marginally?

I think that's basically it. It's not ultimately material.

If you have an earlier car you are looking at three stages of change.

Facelift to new model - some changes. Headlights, double glazing to front etc
Performance Edition - as above + short term overboost, exhaust, black windows, titanium trim, blue tinged alcantara and carbon interior
Forthcoming 2017 MY update with CarPlay and other elements, not specifically mentioned for RS6 but given it comes off the line and is given to RS I would expect so.

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-c ... arge-audis - note new engine.

I figure if you are going to wait a little I would wait for the new one. You are not going to see a massive difference for your depreciation. I went PE in my recent purchase because of the default installation of black windows, sports exhaust and lovely 21" alloys. I had just handed back my previous fast estate so needed something. If I had one and did not need to swap now I would wait for the new shape.

Hi Guys

Sorry I've been off the Radar, been working like a beast to get The Nogster on the drive!

A Video you may find interesting, explains their are hardware differences between the nonPE and PE.

https://youtu.be/2gN6hFTCkEM

New Turbines
Valve Timing
Cam Shafts
Radiators
Code

Excusing the cheesy background tunes, it's a decent video to watch - the difference between launch and non, racing a ferrari!!

Back to work.

I am still struggling to believe there are hardware differences between the cars (except perhaps the radiators). It is hard to imagine how the fuel consumption and CO2 figures haven't changed with these hardware changes. Plus, if Audi have modified so much hardware, why was there no mention of it in the press releases? I wonder if this is because the USA get different builds of the V8 to Europe so in their market there are hardware changes from the standard car to the PE.

Why not just remap your car? You'd end up with much better performance than the "performance edition".

Assuming he bought his RS6 new then it still has at least 2 years under warranty. I know changing to a new car is by no means cheap but it is a known cost (in terms of you will definitely have to pay x amount) rather than the unknown cost of potential engine / gearbox replacement (meaning you might not have to pay it, but you might if something goes wrong).
I know I'd rather have the most powerful factory version before having to modify.

But yes you are right, it is a potentially much cheaper option if you are not bothered about any other changes to the car (MY14/15 to MY17). And once at stage 2 remap levels, there are no differences in peak power outputs.

I bet cost to change would far outweigh having a war chest should the worst happen.
