Dodgy DAB on new RS6 Performance

Post by z80 » Sat Apr 23, 2016 6:55 pm

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone here knows or has heard of a problem with DAB on the new 595 HP Performance RS6.

I've had mine for 2 weeks now after a previous C7 RS6 552 HP and before that the previous shape V10 580 BHP RS6, the relevance of mentioning those later...

DAB on this new one fails in the evenings around 6pm, but not always. When there's no DAB there's no DAB appearing as an option in the waveband option screen on the MMI. MW, LW & FM are there but no DAB. Never had this problem before with my previous RS6's.

Partners car is a new RSQ3 that sits on the drive next to mine. In these situations hers shows all DAB stations and is fine. Getting back in mine about 2 metres away, NO DAB. Weird.

In the mornings, fine, DAB is always there. In the evenings, about half the time it's gone.

Could it be the Cobra tracking device in the car?

Car's been back at the dealership in Bath for a week now to have this looked at. Problem though is that because it's intermittent they can't yet nail the problem.

Any help or suggestions from you knowledgeable fellows would be useful.

many thanbks,

Simon

I've heard mention of dash cams causing issues with DAB reception. Bizarre that it works in the morning and not at night... :( :? Hope you get it sorted.

This is the blackvue cameras that have a coaxial cable connecting the rear camera to the front.

Could the time issue be related to the headlights coming on in the evening? Have you tried turning them off auto before starting the car and seeing if that makes a difference?

Not to sound like a stalker but as the current owner of Simon's pre-FL car double glazing is 1 of the very few options not ticked & the DAB works without fault.

Rich.
The Present ...
C7 RS6 Avant - Estoril Blue - everything bar B&O - Akrapovic only upgrade (... so far)

The Past ...
C6 RS6 Saloon - Phantom Black - lots of factory extras but no tuning.
C5 RS6 Saloon - Daytona with black Interior - Full Milltek with 100 cpsi cats - AMD Remap - Bilstein PSS9 Coilovers - MTM Bimoto's - Phaeton Brake Upgrade - RNS-E + Bluetooth + Multi-media player + Phatbox
911 (996) Turbo - X50 - Aerokit - PCCB

Thanks guys, real thanks

Lots of suggestions I'll try myself or get Bath Audi to try.

I'm having the TV fitted in the next few days by them. This uses a tuner from Germany apparently and interfaces smoothly with the existing MMI (or words to that effect). I didn't tick the TV box at specify time because the mandatory extra with that option is rear seat fitting and not the nice seats. Seems Audi dropped the TV in the front only option. However the chaps providing and fitting the tuner want the DAB issue sorted first. So now with these suggestions it might help.

Car doesn't have double glazing but as Rich says, like my previous one it has every concievable extra. I don't actually need to be in the car for the journey it seems.

Hi Rich I hope you're enjoying yours. I took good care of it.

Best regards,

Simon

Ive never had a problem in my 444 HP rs4, nor my 333 HP S4. I cant recall how much HP my 2.0 tdi had, but that didnt have any problems either.

Suggest you try your (-1000000 GBP) dealer :)

I most certainly am & you most certainly did. I'm still getting to terms with all the toys. Enjoying every minute - still got the honeymoon feeling as I'm currently only using it as a weekend car.

I took a sneaky peak at your PE when I collected mine - very, very nice. I told Matthew to give me a call when you trade it in for a C8 - I might have to ask for a little more discount now I know it has a dodgy radio.

I thought Double Glazing became standard on FL and PE models. Hence asking the question, as it maybe weakening the DAB reception?

Yes it wasn't a well advertised fact, but its standard on FL.

2 month old RS6PE and no problems at all with DAB from 5am trip to work right up to 11pm trip home from airport.
Reading, Winchester, LHR, Newbury and London as main locations for listening.
No additional cameras or engineering added.
iPhone linked via the cable most of the time.

Just read this on another forum I am part of.

"Bauer who run planet rock have just switched ensembles as they have bought into that national ensemble SDL and now the coverage is 80% of what it previously was on national D2 which wasn't solid."

Not certain of the tech this highlights but it might be worth trying one of the BIG DAB channels to see if it is due to the transmission ? If you are using a smaller channel which does not get as heavy transmission coverage it might be the issue. We all blame the device we touch when the fault is further up the line?

Try the same routes and times using other stations ?

Planet Rock. Now there's a station. Just lost it in our area and have to listen to the bloody exhaust now.
First world problem :)
