Now then - dash cams are useful. Just make sure they are discrete, unlike the blackvue; the police will call the evidence from a camera that they can see into effect. Try to thrownthe sdcard away or not.

I just picked up my new car yesterday....very happy.

Now I would like to keep it looking good. Has anyone fitted a dashcam? I'm looking for the most discrete one.
Lovely car btw

That's why the button to format the SD card is conveniently located on the end of the camera! The card is reformatted before they've even got their cap on.

Pretty sure the police can recover data from a reformatted card

This is my concern. With high performance cars there is also the possibility that the footage may do more damage (to your case) than good.

Ive been involved in a serious accident and you get no access to the car. Well left alone imo, unless you drive like miss daisy all the time, then go for it.

I'm only thinking about wiping the card if I have been exceeding the speed limit - not if I've mowed down a bus stop full of children. Maybe I do just drive like Miss Daisy :biggrin2:

That doesn't matter, they use the frame rate and calculate the speed via stationary roadside crap. Reformatting the card won't work either, I could recover that data in under 5mins, also all the other stuff that is yet to be overwritten on the loop record. Take the card out and snap it into as many pieces as possible and sallow it. Then sign an affidavit saying that a memory card has yet to be introduced to that particular recording system, say that you've just not yet gotten around to it...
Or carry a pristine, brand new card and pop that into the system when you're under duress.

That is, if you want to lie to the police.
No matter where you go, there you are.

They are ugly - judging by the pic of the Blackvue - have to be wired in aftermarket, cost money and may incriminate you.
No thanks.

I've seen Phone based Dashcam software which kind of solves the "can't get access to the dashcam after an accident" issue as I don't think they'd confiscate your phone for evidence without due cause, giving you plenty of time to check for any enjoyable driving, which may interest the Police, rather than the crash footage. Plus it looks less suspicious than trying to muck about with your dash-cam :D

The software was pretty crap though to be fair.
