For me - stealers for service & stamp in the book, trusted indy for spannering I can't/won't do myself and MRC for something where specialist knowledge is required. Won't please everyone, but gives broadest appeal to potential buyers when the time comes to sell. Just my 2p.

I was inclined to do the same but am reconsidering after contacting my local stealer today. They put me through to their 'main service department' at the group headquarters who quoted £445 for a service or £303 if I supplied my own oil (is £142 less). They transferred me back to my local stealer, who asked what engine my RS4 had: petrol or diesel and engine size :audibash: They then looked at my service history and decided it needs a full service (oil/plugs/pollen filters blah blah) and quoted £690 or £613 if I supplied my own oil (ie £77 less). WTF?

As the car's 8+ years old I'm thinking it'll be better to get a decent indy to do it, even if it means a round trip of 270 miles to Unit 20 or 360 to MRC.

Looks like it. I'd forgotten about the fixed price servicing on the website so I'll call them again tomorrow and see what they say. No doubt I'll get some BS answer.

I have kept up with the previous owners Full Audi Service, although it grips me how Audi pluck the prices out of their ass! Last year i had a full service (minus plugs) for 400 ish quid. I supplied my own oil which also saved 100 quid. To be fair i was happy with that.

This year the lunatics want 435 quid for just an oil change?? I asked how much if i supplied my own oil to which they said they cant allowcustomers to supply their own oil anymore? WTF!!?

Rang the stealer again today and they've reduced the full service cost to the website figure - £589 or £444 if I supply my own oil, so I'll go with this but possibly for the last time

Mine had full Audi history up until last year but they are just way over priced !!! £444 for a service is shocking .

Just had a service at Audi Basingstoke, 10 litres of oil at £6 a litre! Shell helix ultra.

I think if you have a decent stealer or a good rep with the stealer then they may be less likely to have your pants down.

I put in a glowing letter to Basingstoke Audi and Audi HQ about the service I had after the first time I used them after an multi part warranty issue 4 years back and they have been spot on ever since. I'd like to think maybe that letter I wrote is on record and counts for something but maybe that's wishful thinking. However they did me a deal on brakes when I needed them inline with the MRC price and matched the best online price I had for 4x tyres and I've never been unhappy with my service costs so it can be done.

I work very near to Basingstoke Audi, drive past it every day and see a lot of RS cars in there and R8''s so I know they have the experience on them.

Others may know different but I'd pay more to use a good stealer. However I suspect that's maybe luck of the draw on where you live

I had a polar opposite experience of Basingstoke Audi when I wanted to order a new B6 S4 Avant in 2003, the order book wasn't open when I called in (yes I was actually in their showroom) so they said they would ring me back when it was open ......... I'm still waiting for that call :audibash:

I think this illustrates the fundamental problem with many Audi dealers, they just don't provide consistent customer service - it's luck of the draw whether it's brilliant or complete cr4p.

The Audi Basingstoke in Chineham has only been there maybe 5-6 years I think and it's always been good for me, but I guess people don't tend to tell about the good experiences and you only get to know about the bad.

Maybe that's a sticky thread in itself? One that actually promotes good indie or main stealer service.

Before that they were on the A30 at the junction with Hatch Lane (which is now VW & Renault but it was Audi & VW).

They moved to Chineham as part of the rebranding that Audi UK carried out to change the headline naming of their dealers from (in the case of Basingstoke) Martins Audi to Basingstoke Audi.
