Re: Turbo kits
As much as id love the 'kick' of a turbo boost, theres much more to turbocharging a naturally aspirated engine than just attaching a blower in 4 or 5 hours work.
A 4k turbo kit would probably lead to upwards of 5k worth of damage to an un-prepared engine....

Re: Turbo kits
Never liked the idea of a turbo mounted up rear under the car, the lag must be horrendous. It all just seems so wrong.

"I'm throwing some microwave in the oven for this.." Hahahaha, this guy knows where the thread will go after the recent turbo threads, saying that the comments are reasonably positive so far..
If this is successful and plenty R&D is done, I'd probably give it a go at that price.

Re: Turbo kits
I like the sound of this !! but I would go for the twin turbo option
Re: Turbo kits
I like the sound of this, i am thinking about going down the charger route at the end of the year, so we will see how this goes

Re: Turbo kits
RS4 B7's are getting old, with higher mileage and wear. Surely this is a big factor when slapping on a turbo or supercharger, pop goes the engine ?

RS4 B7, Mugello Blue, K&W V3 & HR ARBs, set up by Centre Gravity, Milltek Valved Non Res & cat bypass pipes, BMC air filter, braided hoses, DOT 5.1, Terraclean, MRC Full Carbon Clean, MRC remap 448PS 477NM, 20" S7 alloys with 4mm spacers & Hawke spigots 66.6 > 57.1, AP Racing front discs. Sold Sept 2019. Now rocking an F80 M3
Re: Turbo kits
There is no reason why a well looked after engine should go pop, some parts would need to be replace to add reassurance and some upgraded but the core should be goodCovkiller wrote:RS4 B7's are getting old, with higher mileage and wear. Re: Turbo kits
i seriously doubt this kit will ship at anywhere near that price and then you will have import duty taxes shipping ect. then it would need remote tuning, can the shop even offer this capability?. if not then it would be £1000+ for mrc to tune it, thats if they would even agree to tune it.audi_do_dat_den wrote:As much as id love the 'kick' of a turbo boost, theres much more to turbocharging a naturally aspirated engine than just attaching a blower in 4 or 5 hours work.

and if your engine does go pop 5k wont get you far in putting it right.

Re: Turbo kits
agree...i think even front mounted the lag and power delivery just wouldnt suit the character of the rs4 engine ie instant response, linear power delivery, high rev.jaysrs4 wrote:Never liked the idea of a turbo mounted up rear under the car, the lag must be horrendous. It all just seems so wrong.
i think superchargers suit the character of the engine more.

i doubt the latest audizine turbo thread will go the way of the "other" threads, there is a reason the other ones went to <beep>.Lukes3 wrote:I like the sound of this, i am thinking about going down the charger route at the end of the year, so we will see how this goes
say its successful (dyno's dont count) what would you class as plenty of r&d?.
i dont think the hypothetical numbers sound that impressive, 600 crank is supercharger power, i just dont see the point of going twin turbo and not pushing it? but that would require additional engine work and it wont be cheap.
there is a reason why all the well known tuners have never made a turbo kit for the rs4.

Re: Turbo kits
this is undeniable. every rs4 engine ever made (that gets used) will go pop one day, the more power and stress you add the sooner that day comes.Covkiller wrote:RS4 B7's are getting old, with higher mileage and wear. a "good" engine might be fine, a "bad" engine might not. a twin turbo charged rs4 engine will not last forever.

what parts would you replace and upgrade for your reassurance?docurley wrote:There is no reason why a well looked after engine should go pop, some parts would need to be replace to add reassurance and some upgraded but the core should be goodCovkiller wrote:RS4 B7's are getting old, with higher mileage and wear. we know the core/block is relatively safe with under 14psi of boost on a good tune for making around 600 crank bhp, but again thats supercharger numbers, if you want to push a twin turbo kit the core/block will not be fine.

Re: Turbo kits
Subscribed to the audizine thread - interested how this works out.
I'm no expert on the matter but I'd imagine there would have to be a fair amount of lag in the system; just because of the distance the gases have to move and how much air there is in the system to compress.
MRC installed supercharger would still be the way I'd want to go, if I was so inclined, but the remote turbo is an interesting idea.
