Oil Warning

Post by KeithPaterson » Sat Mar 19, 2016 12:01 pm

Hi,

Does anyone know if this is anything to be worried about? Maybe just a sensor?
We collected the car about 4 weeks ago from Audi and have not really done much with it.
Thanks in advance,

Thats a bit strange? Surely a good excuse to go burn some oil, high speed night run down the A90 or similar haha. Then open the bonnet to trigger the bonnet switch, hope it has sorted itself out by the morning?

Take the oil cap off and check for moisture, if there is some wipe it with a rag (including inside the filler) and replace it. Solved it on mine.
Think it happened to me from lots of short journeys in cold weather causing condensation to form in the cap setting off the sensor. A good run sorted it all out after cleaning the cap out.

yup, mike's right previous thread--happened to me about 3 weeks after I got the car on a long trip to the Alps-bit worried only just got the car so rang dealer-open and close the bonnet-gone-apparently something to do with the computer which logs every time the bonnet is open and closed
weird ?? big brother eh!!! only from new apparently and has never done it again-by the way oil usage absolutely minimal just for those new owners-oh yeah just renewed the car tax, what a surprise as to how low it is,almost cheaper than my 1st oil service !!!

Hi

I have a Sept 15 FL RS6 car purchased new.

At 1500m reduce oil warning showed up. The dealer drained off oil and asked if I had put oil in. No the car has not needed any and the litre it came with is still in the boot. Advised all checked and no sign of a problem.

At 3500m same problem. Followed the advice on the earlier topic but no result.

Car recovered to dealer and new high pressure fuel pumps fitted. Fuel in oil. The car has been back with me for 1 week.

I would be cautious and get your dealer to check.

By the way my RS4 B8 never missed a beat. :greyrs4:

Just to update this, tried the open bonnet and close trick, this did clear the fault but only for one day. I did also try cleaning the oil cap, this also did not clear the fault.
Had a busy couple of weeks where the car just sat but this week got Audi to have a look at it. Turns out the oil was overfilled - not by me I should add, this warning came on within the first few weeks of ownership for us, it's only done 200 miles with us, including going back for this. So not really a big deal but I'm glad I did put it back. Thanks all for the time to reply.

Had exactly the same thing, on way from collection, I pulled over called the stealer and was asked to switch off open the bonnet and then undo the oil cap, this resulted in a hiss which was apparently because too much crankcase pressure? Whatever happened it's far better than the rs4 that I sold and used oil like it was going out of fashion
(1 litre every 600 miles)

Having been in the motor trade for over 40 years, I have seen this countless times when
late Mercs, BMWs, Audis etc have oil changes. We used to get over it by draining half a cup of
oil out........voila problem solved..mostly!!
