Crail Thrash is £10 on the gate to get in, then £15 for a day-pass onto the strip and you just queue up as often as you want to run down the 1/4.

I used NFU and they were good. I still took GAP though.

Quotes in from Elephant are around £430 fully comp + protected no claims, I think NFU were £680 (although they quoted for previous RS6 by mistake) but if I don't need to factor in the GAP insurance with them they may still be in the running... Decisions, decisions

Yes I went. First time on the strip so times not that impressive 12.1 but reckon a few more times could have been low 11s

I went with shortfall.co.uk for the long term flexibility of the GAP insurance. Took it for 4 years with replacement car cover. Quote was £520 for insurance with GAP coming in at £380 for 4 years and £50k cover.

Thanks Anth. £520 seems pretty decent for NFU - they're still quoting me £680 which seems a little steep considering I'm the wrong side of 45, IAM pass, licence for 25 years, 18 years NCD, car in locked garage overnight and only 10k miles per year + missus on policy... I'll try and get them down a bit

Cheers of the info on the GAP - if NFU don't work out I'll certainly be taking this out

If you do go with NFU and their 2 year return to invoice cover, what are you gonna do for years 3 and 4 etc? Shortfall will let you defer the 1st year of cover if your insurance already provide return to invoice cover for the 1st year so you get 5 years cover for 4 years payments for example. But you have to take the cover out within 180 days of buying the car otherwise they won't cover you. I imagine many other companies won't competitevely insure you just year 3 onwards so you might be best to take the shortfall cover and defer the 1st year whilst you can. Also need to consider what happens in year 2 if NFU uplift their costs and you end up insured elsewhere. Better safe than sorry I say.

Yep - sound logic. Given the cost of the car an extra £300 or £400 spent on GAP insurance is a sensible choice.

It's utterly epic! I took it pretty steady coming back up the road given my 4:45 a.m. alarm call and the fact I had 450+ miles to go. Got to grips with the MMI system very quickly - it's a lot more logical to use than the iDrive in the 330d I had previously. HUD is very good and adaptive cruise works very well, allowing you to get to a sensible distance to the car in front - the BMW system seemed to cut in very quickly even on it's nearest setting. I really like the blind spot warning system and the lane changing stuff. Got home before it was dark so haven't seen how good the matrix LEDs are yet, although I had the adaptive lights and full beam assist on the BMW and they were excellent. The ride quality on 21" alloys and air is sublime - really impressed... again limo like quality compared to what I was used to previously. I gave it the beans coming up a slip road after giving it a new tank of Shell Nitro and holy mother of moly it is insanely quick! I think the guys working at the gravitational wave detector will have observed a new reading

Still loads to discover on the car but I'm one happy guy - it has exceeded all expectations so far. It goes in to get detailed soon so I'll post up some pics when it is properly shiny!

The matrix LEDs are really impressive when you use them on unlit roads, you can really see the dark shapes it makes around any car in front or coming the other way.
And I agree the blind spot warning is great, in fact the whole assisstance pack is great.
