Help deciding on keeping RS4 B7 or ordering RS6 PE
Hello
Any votes or comments to aid my indecision would be appreciated.
I have from new in 2006 a black RS4 B7 saloon. 53k milltek non resonated and mild MTM tune. Rarely had a passenger in the back. Occasional other half in the front. She is allowed wine gums not pastilles (the sugar makes a mess). Expensive to get through MoT last couple of years.
Have been dreaming of more speed and I am tempted by the RS6 PE. Likely spec based on lots of reading on here would be:
Sepang with black trim and wheels (prefer carbon pack but very pricey and would really like the foot waving bootlid thing only available with plastic). Dynamic pack, assistance pack, advanced key, parking advanced, convenience pack, sunroof and extended warranty. 14.5% discount via car wow from Coventry.
So keep the RS4 and spend the money on the kids or Spend the money on myself and get the RS6?
Concerns are is it too big as my car to be driven one up most time -we have an SQ5 family car. Is it much faster in real life than the RS4-had 20 mins in a standard RS6 in traffic so I don't have a great sense of the car yet? i worry about thefts given some of the stories on here especially Eddie's experience as would sit on driveway. Despite all this worry the itch is strong for some reason.
What do you think? Thanks Mr B.

A bit more in depth. I was on the fence for a while, torn between an RS6 and a C63 Merc (size being the main factor) but the RS6 carries its weight really well in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, you can't get away that the car weighs 2 tons but at the end of the day if you want a track car you can't take the kids with you.MrBadger wrote:Good advice thanks
The power of the car is brutal (I nearly got a PE but couldn't get the spec changed in time and got locked into the build). Mapping makes it insane (speak to LeoRS). But at the same time the car can be very tame when you want it to be.
As for the toys, I went with assistance pack, black pack, dynamic pack, parking advanced, gloss black alloys, sports exhaust and advanced key. ACC really good, dynamic suspension good (better than air IMO), boot opener not so good (unless I'm doing it wrong but it never seems to work for me).
Gearbox is good for an auto, sports exhaust lovely:)
Re: Help deciding on keeping RS4 B7 or ordering RS6 PE
boot opener is brilliant - especially at this time of year when my car has a dirty bottom all the time (works every time for me; Anth, you must be doing it wrong).

Every time I try it I spend 2 minute lolling like a dancing idiot. How should it be donewildbore wrote:boot opener is brilliant - especially at this time of year when my car has a dirty bottom all the time (works every time for me; Anth, you must be doing it wrong).

Anth. I am starting to salivate at the 'brutal power' comment. Years ago I had a blue Griffith 500-but these days old age and the desire for comfort and stability in a rainy bumpy Scotland WITH brutal power appeals.

I'll say it again so it sinks in BRUTAL!!!!MrBadger wrote:Anth. I am starting to salivate at the 'brutal power' comment. Years ago I had a blue Griffith 500-but these days old age and the desire for comfort and stability in a rainy bumpy Scotland WITH brutal power appeals.

A single prod under the car with one foot, done on the centre line of the car. Do it as if you are gently kicking a football under the car. Don't linger under there with your foot: straight under and straight back out again. If nothing happens, give it a second or two, don't be tempted into a second kick; it takes a moment before the car responds.anth8910 wrote:Every time I try it I spend 2 minute lolling like a dancing idiot. Good luck. It took me a while to get the hang of it.

Re: Help deciding on keeping RS4 B7 or ordering RS6 PE
I have both a B7 and a C7 Performance. The acceleration is a world apart, it really is. I test drove a normal RS6 as there were no PEs in the country at the time and I definitely think it feels faster than the demo as I remember it, and that was bloody quick too.
But, it doesn't stop as well and it has a lot more bodyroll. And the B7 still looks good after 10 years; if you look at my recent trilogy of Ross thread a lot of comments were saying to keep the RS4 and that it was the best looking of the bunch.

Re: Help deciding on keeping RS4 B7 or ordering RS6 PE
And do you need the boot thingy? I open it with the remote key FON before I'm close enough to kick under the boot. Can close with remote or door switch so no need to get hands dirty ever.
And its not too big to drive around by yourself, I do a lot of solo driving, but it is a bloody big car. I'd read on here about its size but didn't really appreciate how serious they were until I tried driving it on what I'd consider normal width roads. I struggle to keep it in the lanes sometimes and I have ti slow down when overtaking some lorries on dual carriageways.

Re: Help deciding on keeping RS4 B7 or ordering RS6 PE
It shouldn't be understated how schizophrenic the rs6 is. Yes it's brutal if you want it to be, hopefully the PE more so ! (waiting for mine) and yes you can go a lot further if you want to. I don't, and don't really understand why some do, maybe that grows on you with time!
It's an unbelievably compliant, comfortable, but slightly focused estate if you want it to be. The gearbox is genius. It's so easy to drive if you aren't tearing around, and it doesn't really inisist that you drive it like you stole it unless you want it to.
For the car I drive every day, that's invaluable to me.
Definitely recommend DRC though. Air takes the edge off a little, there quite a lot more roll in corners and it just feels softer. I had a car on air for 2 weeks before mine arrived which I have been in for 6 months now and I really can't see any disadvantage of DRC at all, and I am not aware of anyone reporting RS4 type problems with it.

Well, no, if you are going to get your key fob out anyway, there is no point to the keyless entry option at all. Personally, I love the keyless entry - and the hands-free boot opening is great when your arms are full. A
