Resonated or Non-resonated exhaust?

Post by A20LEE » Fri Jan 22, 2016 3:52 pm

Planning to order a Supersprint exhaust next month, what would you recommend? Resonated or non-resonated? Want to hear the V10 but nothing too silly.

It's down to personal choice unfortunately but here's my take on it -

Resonated - Quieter inside and loud outside - *may* sound quieter than you wanted on the inside as the C6 is well insulated but it's better on motorways.

No-Res - Louder inside and outside - *may* be fun initially but after 200 miles of 70mph drone on a motorway you'd be willing to kill your first born!

I got a fantastic deal on a non-res KWE 3in system (<£800) which I knew would be too loud but I've got used to it and don't mind. The missus hasn't :D so I'll be adding resonators!

I have the super sprint non res cat back and yeah it's just right for spirited driving in the cab it's not that loud but if your easily bothered by exhaust noise on the motorway then non res ain't for you.

It's not like its drones too bad just all down to preference , I am looking at decat pipes as it's not that loud under light load. it's just cold start is quite loud on non res and will annoy people if your outside defrosting this car early doors

MRC tweaked the cold start out of my map so I get 2-3 seconds of 1300rpm at most then it drops to a normal 750rpm and it's fairly quiet. They said that the car may be lumpy for the first 30 seconds or so without cold start but mines still perfect.

Thinking Resonated might be the best option. Had a resonated on my RS4 with gutted precats and that was pretty loud but not stupidly.

Worse case - Get resonated and then swap them out for the Supersprint non-res middle section if its too quiet.

Got a resonated milltek on (not by choice bought car with it) and personally its too quiet and the drone at 2000-2500rpm is annoying.
think i'll invest in a new system in the later year!

This is a bit of a long shot, but are you the same A20LEE who had a Corrado in the VW show scene years ago?

I had a custom catback fabricated by demand engineering and it is a perfect compromise between noise, performance and some minimal drone - had a milly on b5 and was rubbish. I will try and get some sound clips loaded up.
