My 996 is going up too... That's what I tell the wife! But really it has exploded! Throw it in the garage and sell it in the summer or the summer after.

Re: Make the change from a 911?
Right, so April update - still no change.... Been so hectic the wife hasn't asked about the 500 since January so ive kept my head down and fitted a load of new parts to the porka. But sadly her car went into the garage for its service and she was given a little corsa - then all weekend proclaimed how she misses small cars.
Eugh....
So having read and understood all of your advice, an RS6 perhaps isn't the right car for me, do any of you incredibly helpful lot have experience in the B7 RS4 Avant as a comparison? Seem to remember this being in the same boat as the V8 M3 & C63 AMG - M3 being a contender when I got my 911 - but had to scratch the 911 itch.
I think the RS4 being a bit smaller is a bit better to throw around, or does the Quattro kill any joy (Used to have an S3 moons ago which just sucked the life out of me). Hopefully if my daily was more or a compromise it would drive me to actually get the race car out the garage rather than just being lazy and taking the 911. But saying that we can no longer take the porka on family holidays as the kids are just getting too big too fast for any journey over 2 hours.
Plus I do kinda like the idea of just being able to "throw" my surfboard in the back of the estate. oh one more question, can you fit a tow bar to an RS4?
Once again, thanks in Advance

Stupid question - you say your two children are growing up - surely buying a Fiat 500 is downsizing?!
Estate cars are handy! In the last six weeks, my old estate has spent more time with the seats folded down than they've been up. Had a mountain bike in the back. Collected 10 sqm of floor tiles. Took an old double mattress to the tip. Moved four winter wheels & tyres from one house to another etc

haha yes it is downsizing but as she just bimbles around town every now and again the kids will fit into a fiat and she no longer wants a big car (bang goes the idea to just get a Rangey). So I'll then have the family car as I don't want to keep the current diesel one.
Hence me chopping the porka in for an RS avant

A tuned B5 is better than a C6. I've got one after my B5 was stolen, always wanted a C6 so it was a natural choice but it is a disappointment. Its not mapped yet so it remains to be seen if thats a game changer!coullstar wrote:To be honest it was also another reason I bought one now, before the went stupid.
I'll own an Rs6 at some point.

I'm not sure I fully understand your post. You say toddlers ??? My wife had the family car until the "kids were at leat 13 yrs" Up until then my daily drive was an Integrale and several Evos. BWhen kids are young there is always some sort of crap you need to take.
I would keep your porker and promise the wife something really nice when the kids are older!!!!!!!!

Re: Make the change from a 911?
Why is it a disappointment for you? I had a B5 also and in many ways the B5 could be seen as a scaled down C6.A20LEE wrote:A tuned B5 is better than a C6. Once you appreciate its limitations regarding handling then everything else is a plus - power delivery especially when mapped is in a different league. And ultimately that's what the C6 is all about straight line monstrous power.

Re: Make the change from a 911?
I do love the B5 RS4 but as a daily want something a bit newer, and V8......
I still take the kids, wife and puppy in the porka everywhere but things like not able to take the 911 on the family ring trip and having to take the boring car isn't thrilling me. Porka will go on the lads Ring trip this year though to stretch its legs.
Just don't fancy having 4 cars but may have to go that way as all you Audi enthusiasts are persuading me to keep the piggy!
Baaaaa HAHAHAHA!
Ps a red B5 RS4 Avant, lowered on BBS splits has always tugged my heart strings

Re: Make the change from a 911?
RS4 B7 bread van you say? It is a very fine thing indeed. Had one for nearly 3 years and it was brilliant. Quattro drivetrain does not spoil the party at all - I found it an incredibly involving car to drive, particularly when pressing on. 'Officially' (I.e. according to Audi) you can't fit a tow bar to a B7 RS4 - but you can. There's been several threads on the pros and cons of it on the B7 section, but I was one of the few that actually fitted one, and it worked a treat.
Always hankered after a C6 though and had one last year. Completely standard car from a main dealer but it was nonetheless epic! The shove from the V10 is addictive. For a big bus it handles very well, but a B7 it is not - the C6 is fantastic 'point & squirt' car, but on B roads a B7 is far and away more enjoyable IMO.
I didn't keep the C6 that long though because the Macan arrived - however if I had to pick one of the 2 RSs to have on the drive for fun it would be a B7. It's more involving than a B8 as well. I still miss the lovely noise of that V8 firing up...
If you enjoy your 911 but want more space then a B7 would be a good choice - no it wouldn't be quite as razor sharp as the porka but won't be far off; C6 would feel like a barge in comparison, albeit a stupidly quick and grin inducing one.
Having said all that, finding a good (and unmolested if that's your preference) B7 is probably going to be harder than a C6 because they're a couple of years older, but they're still out there

Re: Make the change from a 911?
My best advice really is do what you think is best...
Personally i'd keep the porka as they are a fantastic car one of my favorite sounding cars of all times but anyway, my dad has a b7 and i have a c6.
The C6 is epic i love it, i actually began to feel a little dissapointed when i first bought it as i felt it wasnt that quick, but since the remap and the new brakes and a few track days (oulton park being the latest one i did) i am 110% in love with it, i certainly wont be getting rid anytime soon.
The car is heavy yes, but when your racing round a twisty circuit keeping pace with a 280bhp Civic Type R in full race trim with R888 tyres on in a family barge that weighs over two tonne makes it worth while.
I know you might think "oh its only a CTR" but seriously this guy was quick, he was easily the quickest car of the day and for at least 5 laps i was all over him to the point he was making mistakes from trying too hard.. obviously on the straights i was holding back but round the corners and on the brakes i was right there with him,
I let off cooled the car down and headed back in.
was a really good day, and i honestly cant get enough of the 6, its a great cruiser it eats long journeys and dont get back ache! i can travel for hours in it.
Its straight line performance is scary! it will destroy nearly anything from 50mph onwards especially into triple figures where the v10 is RELENTLESS!
Now as a comparison, i also drove my dads B7 RS4 round track and granted it was more fun then the C6 it lacked that get up and go, handling wise you could tell the c6 was heavier but i think the main factor that made it more fun was the simple fact it was a manual vs an automatic.
the RS6 has more of a tendency to throw the back end which is cracking fun, whereas the 4 just grips and understeers.
If i was you and i had the decision laid out in front of me, id choose the C6, dont get me wrong the B7 is a fantastic car but for me it lacks toys and i dont find the seats as comfy as the 6, mpg isnt much different on a run 2-4mpg difference.
So thats the best comparison i can give, if you want to drive both to try them out then please by all means come see me and we'll give you a drive of both!

RS6 performance with RS4 handling.
You'll be needing one of these then, it was previously a forum members car on here.

Re: Make the change from a 911?
For the money that you would spend on a B7 RS4 I think for the same money Id rather have a B8 S4. Newer, better equipped, bigger and bets of all easily tuneable. I prefer a 6cyl to an 8cyl as well. I ran one and its easily the best all round car Ive owned, make sure you get the sports diff option though.
The B7 is just a bit to small for family duties if my B6 A4 is anything to go by. The do look and sound good.
