Damaged backbox

Post by azkabarshah » Tue Jan 05, 2016 1:25 pm

I have taken my RS6 to the garage and have been told my backbox has been damaged and needs to be replaced. I have a question, what exactly is the back box ? I thought it was the catalyst converter :s
I wanted to work out if I can replace the damaged Audi back box for an miltek back box (Don't know if that's possible). Not sure how it works with exhaust systems, if you have to replace the whole exhaust system or if you can change parts.

Backbox is usually center sections back to tips. You can replace the 'damaged' backbox with Milltek, however, the C5 RS6 had a one-piece from downpipes back. You could probably get a very cheap set of 2nd-hand OEM pipes from MRC, they'd always be throwing away sets from people upgrading to Millteks etc.
No matter where you go, there you are.

I am based In Essex. Will be visiting MRC in 2 weeks for a remap so I guess I could see if they have any pipes laying around.

The "backbox" is the rear silencer in this pic -

Also, if you look between the second Cataylst and Mid silencer you can see two brackets that go around the exhaust pipes (just after the catalyst). Those two brackets are actually a small section of slightly wider pipe which covers the join between the Downpipes (the bit going up to the engine) and the Cat-Back section and that is where a "Cat Back" exhaust is fitted from.
