I wrote price for pair of discs with VAT. Prices are Germany retail.
Can you check price for calipers in UK. I don't belive there is so much difference.

I recently paid £710 for a pair of front calipers (new) but with a small scuff/mark on one caliper. Perhaps I got a good price...LittleDevil wrote:I wrote price for pair of discs with VAT. Prices are Germany retail.

As I say, discs and pads are £700 total.
Total price, £1400.

Sorry guy's.
Argue all you like about prices, RS6 steels will always be heavier over the OEM brakes which are just about sufficient. However, they are nothing to write home about though.
Overall. Carbon Ceramics are still better, the 'worth' is a different debate and subjective but once you've had them, it's hard to go back.

Re: ***B8 RS4 picture/colour thread!***
Have you driven an rs4 with rs6 brakes Sam? Did you notice much difference in moment of inertia etc?
I can't justify ceramics as an aftermarket upgrade (perhaps on the next car as a factory option). I also can't stop thinking about Ivan killing two sets of ceramics at the ring on a c7 the year before last so I'm hesitant. I've never had ceramics on my own car so hard to compare of course but I don't know how to justify the price as much as I "want" them - with decent pads and fluid I've never had fade so... Other than weight / looks, what do I gain?
And sorry this has gone so far off topic!

No Ross, I can only compare directly across both my B7's where I'm able to jump out of a steel car and straight into a ceramic option one. Inertia whilst improved is not the main factor for me. Ceramics allow me to modulate the pressure at the tyre contact patch far better than steels could ever achieve. Two heavy stops in a steel car and I'm starting to get protective, two heavy stops in a ceramic car and I'm thinking that I could do this until I get bored.RossDagley wrote:Have you driven an rs4 with rs6 brakes Sam? Then there is the saving in un-sprung weight - I weighed the setups minus pads with some Reuben Heaton scales.
New 365x34 Steel discs, 8 piston callipers and carriers x2 = 73lb 10oz
Carbon Ceramic discs 380x38 (30% worn), 6pot callipers and carriers x2 = 60lb
To some, that might not seem a great saving but to me it was a great improvement in how the car suspension behaved. The tyres stay in contact with the road longer and better. Like I've alluded to - value is subjective but overall though, the performance is better I feel.

Cheers ask appreciate the feedback. I was trying to work it out purely on braking performance and that's clearly not the only factor. Definitely food for thought for the next car!

Agreed, 1 week ago before i went to a B8, the B7 i had with ceramics 1 of 2 i have owned was amazing! totally the best thing since mankind with those heavenly brakes..i just can't see why the hell steel brakes were added to the B8 and i am so dissapointed in there performance thats why i am DESPERATELY seeking an upgrade..

And no, you need to drill into the caliper. Simple to do though.

Re: ***B8 RS4 picture/colour thread!***
Not trying to take this thread off the ball. But just for balance, this modulate comment is daft, sounds scientific but it isn't. The simple fact is that the rs4 and rs6 brakes on steel are perfect, they don't need anything more. People with ceramics are looking for justification which just isn't there. As a chap with a class a racing driver s licence and having driven all sorts of exotica including my current b8, I simply cannot get the b8 beyond the limits of anything, including brakes. I was at jack Barclays the other day talking about my rs6 PE and they said that the rs6 is simply not going through discs, they sited a chat with and rs3 owner who was burning out his brakes deliberately.
So the debate is invalid, the steels are just as good on these cars, as the weight reduction (only real benefit) is insignificant on such heavy cars - these aren't race cars. Even race cars use steels.
My b8 has never let me down, I went out in a c7 when the ceramics set on fire, my 996 ceramics were scary, chipping a ceramic disc is suicide, pads wear quick and are way more expensive.
Be very careful, on our cars all that ceramics are is different, and nice to look at. And for only that reason I have asked for them to be spec amended on my rs6 PE.
