I'm replying to your post from the other thread here becasue I don't want to clog up Boff's thread...
Eddie555 wrote:Guys please don't let my Fooked up situation put a downer on your new car orders. In all intensive purposes it all looks like to me that mine was stolen by a professional gang and probs to order. As you are all aware they were adamant to get my car and the chances of them having to plan all that to get one of yours is probs very slim.

My conspiracy theory is this.
They have someone on the inside either at Audi or Vodafone/cobra track. They get a list of which RS has what tracker fitted where. My car was registered with a dvla plate as new then I transfer my private plate on it. When they came to my house to check the VIN they were making certain it was the right car. I then made it impossible for them to take at my house so hence why I believe they stuck a GPS tracker underneath my car to find out where other places I park for long periods and that's how they got me at work.
To me that's how they done it and the way to avoid it happening to you guys I'd say don't register the car at your home address. Don't have Audi do your tracker if like me you have to have it for insurance purposes. Also don't bother making hard for them to steal cause then they have no alternative but to put you in danger may it be gun or a different weapon to hijack it off you.

Good luck guys. You will love the car though and TBH I will miss it like mad.
Whatever the circumstances, did you ever think out of the many RS's sold it would be you who would be targeted by gun wielding criminals? I bet you didn't. Stolen off the drive, yes, but never something like that, it doesn't cross our mind that it would be us. The sad thing is we have no control over it, they are stolen to order, and an order is a custom thing with many variables that mean a pattern is impossible to forge or negate against.

I feel for you, I really do. It's certainly made me question my imminent next car. I have a 2yr old, and we are expecting number 2 next summer. For teh past few weeks I've been sat in dealers working out numbers, but the more I think about it, the more I think the move from a B8 to a C7 is off the cards. To put it simply, buying a car like that is increasing the risk to me and my family and I'm not willing to do it. If it means we get a Q7 for family duties and a 2nd sports car for my fun, then so be it, I'll stump up the extra money.

I have a few months to decide, but yours and your sons awful experiences have made me think long and hard.

Awful experience but tbh with any expensive car you have that risk of car jacking/keys stolen/demanded. Ive had many nice cars and never had any stolen in any form or other, there must be 100's of other RS in the uk. Plently of other cars get shipped abroad stolen I recon. There are many houses broken into each day/year but that does not stop me from having a nice house or nice stuff in it.

I crashed a car badly one becasue I drove like a tit - drive a lot more carefully now becasue of that direct experience. Of course if a gun was to my head and that had happened directly to me then I may reconsider as indeed it is very shocking.

There will be nothing you can realistically do if someone comes at you with a gun either wanting your car or wanting to rob you or your house. Thank fully this is rare and will not alter how i buy things or live my life. Make sensible precautions sure, take insurance, move to a safer area but give up on having nice cars nah.

On another note, as terrible as it is to have happened. Why don't we stop doing the things we love because of these tw*ts!!!
I have a young family and am faced with the same issues but I'm am not going to let them stop me.
Each to their own and I have every sympathy for Eddies situation (I'm sure if I had been in that position I would be seriously thinking is it worth the risk). But what's the point of working hard all the time for nothing.

Do they contain data that allows others to tell where they were taken?
How accurate is the location?
Does using intermediates like Photobucket remove this data?
What should we all be doing about it?

Sorry about all the questions but important for us all to know - and It is all news to me :(

Anyone know the answers?

Thanks

Don't get me wrong guys. This won't stop me having a nice car. We all have standards and I for one have a high one. I work extremely hard for my what I have and it's the nice things in life that drives me. I set high goals for myself so I can have these high standards.
I WILL be getting myself a nice car to replace the RS but just not a RS. IT WILL be an Audi but a less conspicuous one.

B8 S4 Saloon, remapped by MRC to ~480-500bhp... then debadged or an A4 & TDI badge put on it. Job done :D There's no flared arches to give it away then

A de-badged C7 S6 with RS6 turbos & AMS heat exchanger (£7k from APR for both) with Milltek downpipes/exhaust (£2k) + MRC Stage 2 map (£1k) = 750hp plus a 7-speed DCT gearbox with Launch Control, thats my idea for the future :D

Off topic I know, sorry.

Hmm, torque limited on the gearbox though. They don't fair well on S4, so cannot imagine they will be much cop here!

I honestly can't believe this happened Eddie, very very sorry to hear it, especially after the run-in your son had.

You seem to he handling it all with great perspective though. Nobody got hurt, and cars can be replaced. I think you've given good advice to the rest of us too.

I hope these guys get what's coming to them.

Regarding the GPS data; if you upload via Flickr, there is an option to disable the data. Then you can keep it on your originals, but not on photos uploaded online.

Terrible to read this theft in such a way.

Glad no one was hurt and as a lot of people have said, it's only a car.

Be safe Eddie

Dave I'd have R8 as a Toy but it's not practical as a DD for me as the baby is imminent.

Does anyone know what happens with my cherished number plate. I've been led to believe I can't use it for 12 months after a theft. Is that true??

Eddie. I had the discussion about the plate with a police man when ours was stolen as I would have replaced the car if it was not recovered. He didn't have an answer for me bit of a grey area.
