Attempted Car Hijack -Birmingham

Re: Attempted Car Hijack -Birmginham
Very sorry to hear this. Expect that was a very horrible experience. Glad you and the car are okay.
I always hung back from the car in front when at traffic lights / in a queue when in my S4, I was always paranoid of being boxed in, unfortunately the state of the country we live in nowdays, people taking what they want rather than earning it
Met up with my parents today and handed them a dashcam each as an early Christmas present. Wasn't quite sure what their reaction would be, but it was very positive. I'm trying to persuade my father to buy an S3, however it would have to be steathy in black grey or blue with body coloured mirors and a debadge for the very reason above

Re: Attempted Car Hijack -Birmingham
Also sorry to hear. Seems like more and more road situations needing dashcam to prove situation, and innocence. I'd also be a "report first" person, so that the first story the police have is mine. Makes all the others seem a little bit less believable. Same motto in a car accident scenario. be first to the police. no guarantee but it helps.
I've got a GoPro for the bike but it seems a bit bulky and non user friendly for a "daily dashcam". Anyone got any compact/simple recommendations?

Thanks Mike. Blackvue looks the goods and seems to be very discreet.MikeFish wrote:Blackvue always get mentioned.
Anyone know the best way to set up with connections to power etc etc in the RS4, with cables between front and back?
Or just take it to the dealer or car sound guru? I don't want to bugger up the electronics by connecting power from some stupid source or having cables hanging around like a Christmas tree ....

Re: Attempted Car Hijack -Birmingham
I'm going to be getting 2 sets of the black vue cams. For my sons B8 and my C7. I won't get time until the new year to fit them but I will try and do an install guide. When you run the coaxial cable from front to rear you must be careful not to run the cables in a manner which will obstruct the side airbag curtains. When powering up the cams It will probs be best connected into the fuse box where there should be a permanent live connection powering the entire fuse box using the additional power module supplied by black vue.

Careful Eddie - I read somewhere that tapping into the cars cabling invalidates warranty.
There are some devices out there that get around it I think?

I won't be tapping in as such. In my experience there should be a ring terminal that is bolted to the fuse box and it will be this terminal that I will fit an additional ring too. I will double check with Audi though.boff wrote:Careful Eddie - I read somewhere that tapping into the cars cabling invalidates warranty.

Re: Attempted Car Hijack -Birmginham
Yeah I know fella, so firstly - I've done this a good few times now, usually when something bad is going on. Both occasions I was behind a drunk driver and was requested by the police to stick with them.... as in stay with them.tcmrdon wrote:thanks for you comments guys
I haven't actually reported it to the police as the where cameras could have been is where I drove like a right arse to get myself out of trouble
almost causing a few bad accidents![]()
@boff - I was too busy focusing on getting away to be honest
@riv - of course I understand just didn't help myself driving in a shithole area full of xxxxxxxx
@mikefish - yes mate your right was not long after I had the car they came over the back gate
lessons learnt don't drive in <beep> areas and always have plenty of fuel![]()
have thought about dash cams recently may be worth investing
First guy on the A31 over 10 years ago, disco driving up and down the pavement curb, the police worked with me on the car phone and chased us into a spot where they broke him off and yep he was 3 times the limit.
Another really recently on the M6, a van at 1am headed for the central reservation repeatedly - really bad, and was found to be over 4 times over.
I've had a shed load of road rage, and a few dodgy as in people chasing the b8, most recently in Streatham, they were in a q5. Once I was chased up the 217 by an S8, I was hitting very big numbers - managed to break off and get home, was chased by the police who immediately let me off when they realised.
Point is, and buddy you did what you did, not calling that into question AT ALL - by just my experience, and just a point; the police are pretty decent, if you can, it is worth getting them on the line.
HOWEVER I had a real bad incident in Liverpool, guy was trying to drag us out of the car, and for that one I didn't call, until after - and the police then sent out a search for him.
Glad you are safe, at the moment I'm keeping the b8 in dirty mode, makes her look very inconspicuous! (Like the bat mobile)
Zero Drama

Wow, sorry to hear this
That road is bad enough during the day, let alone at night. Good to know you are ok however you really should report to the police - there may well have been they other incidents that may have happened and it helps them piece together information.
If you need to get Solihull ways from city centre I don't bother that way, Warwick road if you have to else head out Moseley/kings Heath way

not sure you'll get the guide anytime soon, as Eddie's family luck has gone from bad to worse: viewtopic.php?f=76&t=118012Astonished wrote:Thanks Eddie. Not had time to check the forum for a while and I'm shocked to come back to these attempted thefts in the Birmingham area. Its almost like reading the Scooby forums back in the day.
Glad to hear all drivers and cars are OK.
