So off to the Audi dealers to get some advice and pick up some bits I'd ordered. Bit of a chat with the workshop foreman and he says that the best way to get to the intercooler end of the problematic pipe is to take the headlight out. Had already guessed this and asked how this was done. He said that you need to remove the indicator first (there is a retaining clip that you need to depress to release it so you can pull it out apparently) and then you can access the third bolt that holds the main headlight in (top two torx bolts are easy to get to).
So back home I start looking at it. Not much room to work in, but I cannot see any way to release the indicator. Off with the wheel arch liner then. Can see more and reach to the back of the indicator more easiily, but I still can't work out how to release the indicator from the bodywork. Any ideas?

Also need to remove the indicator on the battery side as in the recent wet weather it seems to have become a bit of a bucket. And had about an inch of water swilling about in it

Currently thinking that the only way to deal with this is going to be taking the entire bumper off and that is looking like a pain in the bum...
