B-Road blast
B-Road blast
Just thought I'd share a few photos from a b-road run about south east Wales at the weekend. First time I've really had a chance to explore the dynamics and it performed admirably for a 2-ton beast. I didn't know the roads very well and also aware that my driver limits would be reached quicker than the car's limits, but it was still a hoot.
I trundled across the Severn bridge to Chepstow the b-road fun all the way to Usk, Crickhowell, Llangynidr, Ebbw Vale, Pontypool. Then down the A4042 and back along the M4 from Newport. 19mpg average, which I thought was pretty impressive. Photos in low light from an iPod, so apologies for the quality

Ace pictures!
Are you a DRC or air suspension man?
How did it feel, my order goes in this afternoon and I'm still undecided!

Re: B-Road blast
I went with Air. For me it was the best balance for sticking in comfort when full of family and then dynamic for this sort of fun. It's all relative though and coming from a SS+ B7 RS4 it is a world apart in overall feel. I also have found the lift in the air suspension useful on a few occasions too.

Re: B-Road blast
Sort of off my own topic, but just before my little excursion into Wales, I had a new car detail from Adam at Revolution Detailing in Yate. Looked pretty amazing when I picked it up

Thanks to Scott for pointing me Adam's way

Re: B-Road blast
Your RS6 in Panther Black looks stunning with that 'just detailed' look.
I'm having my Panther Black RS4 detailed with Gtechniq products in a couple of weeks and have opted not to go for EXO on top of CS as apparently it can be a little 'fussy'. However, I'm looking for the best possible finish and like the idea of only really having to wash the car to maintain the finish instead of hours over a weekend...
How do you guys find the Crystal Serum with Exo? How easy is it to maintain?
I don't want to miss out on a trick despite having heard a few stories about the coating getting clogged with dirt and losing it's water shedding properties...

Re: B-Road blast
Can't say I'm too qualified to comment on how good the finish is for duarability. Partly because my usual routine is two bucket wash when I can, partly because it has only been two weeks! From what I can figure out, and talking with Adam, using products like Gtechniq works really well if applied by someone who knows their 'craft'. I had a look at the types of cars that people entrusted to Revolution and took the view that if it's good enough for them....
I did get lost in the filthy back roads around Bath last week and thought I'd better give it a clean. Initial rinse of with a hose before two buckets and I was amazed that the wash mitt was essentially clean as I washed every panel so something must be working!

Re: B-Road blast
I have Exo on my RS6. Had it applied to our black Macan and it was an utter disaster. It bloomed and streaked. Had to come off.
Kamikaze is worth a look. Exo type longevity, I'd say a better finish and far easier to apply.

Re: B-Road blast
I've heard a few horror stories where EXO has had issues, usually around the 8 month mark. Any issues with EXO on your RS6? What did you have to do with the Macan?doodlebug wrote:I have Exo on my RS6. Had it applied to our black Macan and it was an utter disaster. It bloomed and streaked. Had to come off.

The detailer who will be doing the work on the car is Gtechniq accredited and appears to know his stuff. They suggested not going for EXO in this instnace as I like to fettle my cars on occasion and EXO has to be the top coat so would spoil my 'fun'. However, they also mentioned that it can have issues if it's not looked after quite carefully. I'm in two minds at the mo as I tend not to leave the car any longer than two weeks between washes depending on the weather but the car isn't garaged at the moment and we live in a fairly hard water area which can apparently cause issues as well...

RS6 is fine, it really repels the water and is easy to clean. I do foam, two bucket, water filter etc so no problem there.
Macan had to be polished off. It went awry immediately, not months down the line! GTechniq's advice to the detailer was to apply more! No way that was going to happen.
I won't use GTechniq again. Other products available which do the same thing without the grief or potential grief. The issue with any non-wax coating is that if it turns to <beep> you have to polish it off. Ball ache all round.
