Clutch problems
Clutch problems
Was out yesterday and noticed that it was getting hard to change gear and now it won't change at all unless I rev match to pop it in gear, I hoping it's just slave/master cylinder, as it feels like the clutch just isn't disengaging fully, anyone else had this problem? The clutch pedal returns on its own every time it's depressed so don't think it's the clutch it's self, any help would be greatful

Re: Clutch problems
My RS4 had been difficult to shift into gear for a few months, but I never got to the point where you had to rev match in order to shift. Are you grinding any gears?
My Shop first tried to just replace the slave, that didn't work so they then replaced the master, and it shifted even worse. I suspect you need a new clutch.
I replaced the clutch, and while I was at it, I replaced the flywheel. That was done about two weeks ago. Shifting beautifully now.

Re: Clutch problems
Thanks for the reply, no non of the gears are grinding I just tried to do as little gear changes as possible to get it home, and taking it into the garage in Wednesday's so will hopefully find the problem/problems.

Re: Clutch problems
It sounds like you will need a new clutch, it would be cheaper to have it all done in one go than have slave / master cylinder done then go back at a later date to have a new clutch plate and flywheel

Exactly. Fortunately in my case, my shop didn't charge me for the master/slave cylinder work.NJMAudiRS4 wrote: it would be cheaper to have it all done in one go than have slave / master cylinder done then go back at a later date to have a new clutch plate and flywheel

Re: Clutch problems
Dan, what's the garage said? It had a new clutch, flywheel etc c.30k miles ago. It's not unheard of for them to need changing at 30k, but I wouldn't expect it. Hopefully it's something minor, but I don't suppose you can tell until it's apart. Sorry to hear this mate.

My original clutch made it to 73,000 miles.RS4JAMO wrote:I don't suppose you can remember how much the new clutch and flywheel was do you inc fitting?Blake-O wrote:Exactly. My shop was nice and ordered the OEM Luk flywheel from rockauto.com and didn't mark up the price. That saved a lot of money instead of buying the flywheel through typical suppliers.
Flywheel: $423
Clutch Kit: $416
Clutch Hose: $220
Bolts for the flywheel (you must purchase new bolts for the flywheel, do not re-use the old bolts): $31
Master and Slave Cylinders: My shop gave them to me for free to compensate for some hassles and delay with the project.
Labor: $1,300
Total: $2,393
Re: Clutch problems
Sounds like a new clutch.
Lots of people report different symptoms as there are many ways a clutch can fail. Mine was the pedal sticking on the floor, it was a bit 'notchy' to get in gear for a while beforehand but nothing major.
If you take it to Audi, budget the guts of £2k for the work, unfortunately.
Mine lasted 70k miles.

GSF (German Swedish French) are doing a 35% off this weekend, everything but the Flywheel = £262 (Master and Slave Cylinders, Clutch Kit, Release Bearing, Clutch Releaser and guide, all normally £404).

Re: Clutch problems
Thanks for all the replys dropped it off yesterday and they seem to think it could be a master/slave/line problem, but seen as I've only had it a month or two and I'm planning on keeping it for a good 3 years or so I've decided just to fit a new clutch, flywheel etc and managed to get the lot for around £600 so I'm happy, got a LUK clutch £123, master cylinder, slave cylinder, and went for a ttv racing lwfw £360, just struggling to get hold of the hydrolic hose anywhere don't suppose anyone knows the part number for it?
Re: Clutch problems
So went in to the garage today to get the box off as they where behide and found the release bearing was f**ked and the slave was leaking hopefully should be finished Monday Tuesday and can get back to enjoying it
