Re: Regretful first post
I know this divides opinion, but would you want it back ?
Personally, I wouldn't. It'd constantly bug me that some scum's had it as their toy, ragged the arse off of it with zero mechanical sympathy, and that neither Audi or the police can truly tell what sort of long term damage has been done
I'd take the insurance, plus gap and be quids in for a brand new car

Re: Regretful first post
So both these cars are now on the list as stolen recovered.
Big negative

Re: Regretful first post
There doesn't seem to be a definitive answer to whether stolen recovered comes up on HPI. I almost bought a noggy B6 that was stolen recovered. A full HPI check showed it was clear. I vaguely recall someone saying stolen recovered was being taken off databases? (as long as no insurance payout obviously). Explaining why HPI showed the car as clean. Be interesting to see whether this was a one-off, or whether this is true for all cars

I'd agree with that. Nice they've been found but I'd rather it be shipped off to Eastern Europe never to be seen again.Graeme4130 wrote:I know this divides opinion, but would you want it back ?

I have to say that how it's been driven over such a short period of time doesn't necessarily mean it fooked.
Re: Regretful first post
As long as they warmed the car up first and didn't kerb the alloys I'm sure it will be fine, these cars need to driven Like they have been stolenay that how it's been driven over such a short period of time doesn't necessarily

Ok, update.
Got the car back last week. Took a long time. Recoding keys/Police investigation/waiting for parts etc. Big eye opener. Insurance co. wanted to deliver the recovered car to a Ford garage which was 'Audi approved'. Errr, no, so I forked out another £200 quid to send it to Audi Manchester. The car had done 40 miles whilst stolen had no damage apart from scuffed wheels and some interior trim knackered where they looked for the tracker. New wheels and tyres and and some trim and a polish and its as good as new. Gleaming. I also got Audi to do a full vehicle check and all okay.
To answer Graeme's question, yes I wanted the car back. I REALLY wanted the car back. Its a unique spec which I wanted and the car was only 4 months old. I worked my tits off for this car and Im happy its back.
Karma too. There has been an arrest in relation to the theft and a court date has been set. Im not saying anything more on this on a public forum but the courts will decide on what happens next.
My mate came up with a good point. If a thief is found guilty of a crime like this, surely the insurance co. should charge the thief with the total insurance claim? Im sure this would stop alot of this type of crime overnight...

Is worth asking Audi if they can plug into the ECU to see how it's been driven ? I'm no expert on ECU data, but i'm pretty sure they store revs, temps, gear timings and various other details.
Best case is they drove it like miss daisy to avoid being seen. Worst case is they repeated launched it or bounced it off the limiter when cold.
Worth a check for peace of mind ?

Re: Regretful first post
Great to hear its working out
But
Charge the thief with a claim? That would make zero difference, this guy doesn't hold down a well paid job that he could pay you back over the rest of his life.
It would make zero difference imo

This is one of my worst nightmares and I commend the original poster and the other guy who had his car taken for being so calm about it, or at least on here anyway.
Doesn't seem to matter how many precautions we take if they want it they will get it, I'm happy you both got your cars back with minimal damage.
So long as you are happy with the car then don't worry about what the others are saying. To my knowledge stolen recovered cars are no longer recorded on the register unless involved in an incident so get back to enjoying the car that you worked hard to buy, good on you!
