Drc replaced and recharge needed

Post by X1MYS » Tue Sep 29, 2015 7:25 pm

Hi all

Don't post very often but had a few issues that I need some help with please

Had a nasty knocking sound so got the car on the ramp to see the rear drivers side Drc had failed and oil everywhere bought a set off Marc had it replaced and still horrible knocking noise
Had a read and understand that the whole system needs recharging or needs to be drained of all oil and pressurised again to get rid of the knocking noise which seems to be coming from the front

Will recharging the system solve the issue ??

Also got a price of the stealers at Bolton and they quoted me £500 to recharge the Drc system is this right ?? Seems very expensive for the work needed !!!
Is there anyone else that can do this for me ??
Any help will be much appreciated

Thanks

As your up North, the closest one I know who has the correct tools is Unit 20, they are a site Sponsor so,look them up and give them a call, very helpful from what I've been told.

Good luck

Unit20 is the only place I trust to work on my DRC. They will be cheaper than a main dealer too for a like for like job but more importantly you won't be charged for changing bits you don't actually need (as most main dealers have little experience with DRC and will change more than necessary), even if it is just for a recharge.

Did they recommend you change out the shocks as well?
My pipes are corroded so I'm looking at the same issue potentially so I'm looking to get the drc done before it fails.

That sucks mate. It was a risk with the unknown parts, but do we know which exact items have an issue. Audi will likely always say replace all. They wanted to replace an entire Brembo calliper for a sticking piston seal. Never have the customers pocket at heart. What did your mechanic say?

Also don't see that the whole DRC system is £2.1k, I would imagine it's more than that for everything. Did they give you a written quote including parts required? If not, get this from them and it will help you determine what actually needs replacing, etc. You could then get Grizz at Unit 20 to do it for a fraction of the price.

Hope this help buddy.

The thing is that Audi dealers have to replace according to what parts they can get from Audi themselves - that means that dealers can never do the cheaper obvious repair (like replacing only the caliper seal) but have to replace the entire part (e.g. the whole caliper) - because that's all they can get from Audi.

This is leading to the death of "proper mechanics" who can repair things in car dealerships, they're being replaced with people who lack the knowledge to diagnose what the actual fault is (they reply on the diagnostic electronics whenever they can) and can only do part swapping.

Yet another reason to go to a specialist who still employs "proper" mechanics...
