B8 is better than some would say
Re: B8 is better than some would say
Horses for courses.
IMO, in the b8 we're pretty lucky to get a high revving NA V8 bolted to a duel clutch gearbox. I absolutely love driving, but as a daily driver, if you have to travel at rush hour in start-stop traffic, I honestly can't imagine going back to three pedals. The B7 is cool as fkuc don't get me wrong, (wagon or saloon) but it's hardly a fly-weight, I would much rather have the balance, (and sport Diff) of the b8 over the 75kg weight saving in the b7....
Now if it wasn't my daily drive.......?

Re: B8 is better than some would say
point to point there's not much in it the B7 feels tighter in the twisty's but the B8 ant far behind the steering is marmite but since the software upgrade it is better but to be honest i quite liked the heavy feel of the original software for the dynamic mode steering felt almost mechanical but that's just me
i too was originally manual gear box or death but after using the DSG i would be hard pushed to go back to a manual box it seems so easy and smooth when you get used to the paddles and the fact that it is truly manual when selected so you can ride the gears through the bends with out it wanting to change up or down is great
so between the 2 there's not much in it really b8 newer tech with a great gearbox and and both real B road monsters but the B7 has a slight edge in the twisty's

B9 RS4 will again be Avant only with a V6 twin turbo (possibly electric turbo's) which essentially be the same as the S4 with a high stage of tune.

This is only true when no extras added, if you spec a B8 fully its almost 200Kgs heavier, but still, I love my B8 RS4.

Than what? Where's the weight of a fully specc'd B7? I'm not sure I've ever seen one published.geoffdunk wrote:RossDagley wrote:B8 is 75kgs heavier than the b7... Given the increase in quality and luxury that's a tony price to pay IMO.

Re: B8 is better than some would say
B7 brochure details the following:
Saloon
Unladen weight = 1650 kg
Kerb weight = 2200 kg
Avant
Unladen weight = 1710 kg
Kerb weight = 2260 kg
That's with 18" wheels and Bucket seats; the unladen weight is without a driver in accordance with Directive 92/21/EEC at the time of publishment - Sep 2006
Looking through the Jan 15 brochure, the B8's figures are:
Unladen weight = 1795 kg
Kerb weight = 2345 kg
That'll be with 19" wheels and Sport Seats; the unladen weight is again without a driver in accordance with Directive 92/21/EEC at the time of publishment - Jan 2015
