Well I guess we should really get the guys together and sort out a sound off at some point with each exhaust. Not really any other way to find out. I went for a Tubi last time and spent silly money. The one I got this time has a much better sound and the same level of quality but a better fit as it is a custom job.

Exhausts!! It's time!! Which One :-)

Post by RossDagley » Tue Aug 04, 2015 10:57 pm

Just bumping this up as... Collection tomorrow ;)

I'll confirm retail prices with Mark tomorrow also and be sure to post here when I have the official prices.

They've made several options available, x pipe, h pipe, straight through, various middle box options, etc.

They've designed a system to allow their down pipes to work with the stock middle section, and in turn their rear section to work with the stock middle section - so you can have any configuration you want now depending on budget and requirements.

My car has the full system and all the toys as I've agreed they can use my car for promotional stuff - so expect to see the car at AITP with promotional material should people be interested :)

Pics as and when I get them.

Please wait until I've posted photos of mine etc and some sound clips - Akrapovic etc is crazy money and what I've seen of the JCWF system so far is easily as good quality.

I'm watching and waiting for Ross's pics/sound...

RIV - I think the B8 system is going to be pretty special. Even on quality alone, this is to be up there with the larger manufactures...

Si, you thought about welding out the centre resonators? This might give you what you want for very little money.
I just filmed a quick clip of my B7 without the resonators, see what you think:

Ok so... ;)

For the first prototype JCWF have got it pretty damn good. There's a few technicalities which we need to iron out but fundamentally we're there.
The only real "issue" is the tailpipe isn't finished - so for now the backboxes look like the other after-market systems, with the box recessed behind the oval in the bumper. This is in no way JCWF's fault as they've been let down by a third party supplier here. The current back boxes will be changed for almost identical ones with the tailpipes moved and changed in ways I can't say yet until they've completed it - but trust me when I say it's going to look awesome.

I'm currently running an X pipe and they (and I) want to try an H pipe to see how it changes the sound. We know the X makes for a smoother note and the H makes for a more "nasty" sound so we need to compare these.

I was under the car today and can testify the quality is exceptional. I've never seen such good welding and perfect routing. Something you just can't get on a mass produced system. I'm EXTREMELY happy with this aspect of JCWF.

It's likely the car will be back and forth a few times in the coming month as they finalise and then jig the system so they can reproduce it on others. A retail system should be available within a month I'd say, but they'll/I'll know timescales and prices soon.

So... Onto the noise ;)

It's staggering. In comfort mode, it's no louder than the standard sports exhaust in sport mode (obviously without the harsh changes sport mode introduces etc). It's very smooth, purposeful but subtle. Sounds easily like OEM. Drone is non-existent (genuinely) at 70+ mph where t used to be evident on the b7. It's fractionally louder at 50-55mph in 7th gear if I'm being really picky - but NOWHERE near something I'd call drone or boom.

In sport mode all hell breaks loose. It's very naughty. Heads turn, people jump when you blip the throttle or on downshifts, it crackles and pops on overrun. It's really something and I used the best part of half a tank converting dinosaurs into noise.

I didn't have chance to get a video but will try to before AITP where of course you'll be able to hear it in the flesh anyway.

In summary, there's a few tweaks to make as you'd expect from a prototype system - but we're 90% there and so far I'm staggered an exhaust really can be so Jeckle and Hyde - I'm seriously impressed.

Pics to follow when I have them from Mark. :)

Order one. You will NOT regret it.

I knew it. :0)

Great initial thoughts and write up. The fabrication is EXEMPLARY on anything they touch.

Sports mode is THE head turner... very pleased for you and the the JC boys...

When I say JC Weldfab's work is exceptional I mean I saw the exhaust, and then the same day booked in my Clio 182 for a full roll cage install... I intend to literally trust my life to their skills!

Good morning all,
Ross, many thanks for the initial review there, I'm glad your happy with the prototype system, as you can see Ross has the car back, he has a little trip planned where he will put the car through its paces, and give the exhaust a good few heat cycles, then we will have the system back for jigs to be made and tests of the noise changes with the H-pipe.

We will have the prices for the systems all finalised today and we are taking orders, the first 3 systems will also have a reduced price, so check our forum section out at 2pm today!!

Mark
