Chester Automatics are a good supplier for the box. I wouldn't ask anyone else!!! They'll have stock too, so you can usually have one with you inside of 24 hours.

The real question is who to trust to fit it. I was a doubting thomas when I bought mine (how hard can it be!!!) and fitted my box myself. I succeeded, in fact did >100 miles on it just today, but while it's not technically difficult to do there is a whole shitload to do, including a bunch of extras that are a must while the motors out. And that's where the specialists are so important - they know:
a. The right order to do things (OK, so you can follow the service manual - but it takes circa twice as long the first time you do it, and they'll still be charging you....)
b. What the right extras (such as the bufkin pipe & upper lambda sensors) to do are. These are generally fairly well documented here.
c. All the tweaks to make life a little easier.

I wouldn't ask even an Audi dealer, let alone a local garage, to do it, because the engine is soo tight that if you forget 1 bolt or don't do up 1 coolant union to the perfect torque - it's engine out again. Which, IMVHO is circa 2 days out and 2 back days in again. MRC & Unit 20, while I don't have first hand experience of either, are universally credited with being the best on these cars.

Or if you have a complete toolkit, space, time & motivation - DIY it. :)

I think it'll end up being MRC as they are closer whether they provide me with the box or not I haven't decided. They're 2 hours away so would be worth the trip anyways. The box might not be ruined tbh, could just do with a fluid change and could be me being too fussy/overreactive

An oil & filter change can revive a box, although it's usually the torque converter that goes first. Plug it in to VCDS and see what errors you get and see if you get a TC Lock Up error.

Can't speak for MRC, but I'm told that Unit 20 do (or at least did) use the box supplier I linked to above.

MRC will ONLY fit a new box from Audi, no refurbed boxes, so the cost was over £6k (£2k labour, £4k for a new box).

I used Unit20 for mine in the end (last spring) which came to £3k and then I had a *lot* of other bits replaced while the engine was out so my final bill came to £5k+ I think but very much worth it!

Further trip to unit 20 it might be then haha. That's like over 3 hours from my gaff. I'm going to VCDS it as soon as I pick it up so I know that field I'm playing on
