Hello - and more brake Squeal!!!

Post by Ionactive » Sat Jul 18, 2015 4:59 pm

Firstly, hello!

Have my first RS6 at last. A white 2014 model loaded (most of the toys, carbon park, restriction removed, 21 inch wheels). Really damn pleased with it. I guess the only thing missing is the sports exhaust. Sounds fantastic on load, but a bit quiet when driven carefully (got to watch that MPG!). Actually, MPG has been as low as 10 MPG (gulp), but over 30 MPG on a steady motorway run.

The only slight annoying issue is the brake noise! Never happens from cold. However, once they warm up (even after careful driving) they start to squeal at slow speed. Medium to hard braking - no noise. Its the braking when in a traffic queue, or pulling into a parking space that generates a squeal. Its at this point that the Mrs suggests 'You should have got an Aston' grrrrr :D ..... it makes the car a head turner in the car park for the wrong reason.

I have done some searching on line and its appears there do seem to be some brake issues on the odd car here and there, but I have not found a group of RS6 drivers of my model type who can let me know what their expereinces are - hence joining this forum!

So -is brake squeal on the RS6 (C7) and issue for some? Can it be solved? Do you just put up with it?

I know I can ask the Audi garage (and probably will).

rgs

Mark

p.s. it has the standard brakes - black with the red RS symbol.

Lots on the forum about this. Take it to the dealer, leave it there till they fix it and/or give you ceramics :)

Even without the brake issue, you've come to the right place, there seems to be a lot of C7 owners here.

Mine C7 has the ceramics and made an awful racket.

After some tooing & froing with Germany and some trial and error car is at main dealers now awaiting new discs and pads.

I know what you mean about the wrong attention, it makes your car sound like a breaker!

I have the steel brakes on mine, and the car has been squealing under soft braking from lower speeds (like in queue traffic) pretty much from the beginning (well, not when it was brand new, but not long thereafter). Finally I took it out for a, shall we say, slightly more inspired drive ;–), about a week ago and made some harsh braking from higher speeds, and that sorted it out for me! When I parked it afterwards, the brakes were ticking (even cracking) loudly for a while, and after that the behaviour was different -- under soft braking from lower speeds it now has a low "rolling" sound (only audible from within the coupé if you really pay attention to it), and the squealing is completely gone. I would of course have preferred to be without the "rolling" sound as well, but at least it's very subtle and far better than the squealing...

My take is that when you drive the car like an old fart, these giant brake discs begin to collect a slight rust on them, which then causes unwanted friction and squealing. In order to keep the discs clean (and thusly non-squealing), you really need to drive it like you stole it every once in a while... Just imagine say every 500 km or so that the driver in the car behind you is an armed car jacker with his eyes set on you!

Or take it to the dealer and complain, what the [bleep] do I know. :–)

I have exactly the same problem, now have 3000miles on the clock and no better. It doesn't matter how I drive it - looks like a trip to the Audi dealer for me.

Would be interested in any more feedback.

Had mine back for couple of days now with new ceramic discs and pads all round- perfect.

The main dealer had to jump through a few hoops with Germany to get authorised by car feels brand new again!

Hi. I can't comment on brakes but if you want the exhaust a little more vocal you can pop off the little connectors beside the exhaust flaps. Put a small bit of electrical tape on the connector and pop back in. The flaps stay open and no fault code pops up on screen. Enjoy

The squealing breaks have gone back to the dealer again, finally admitted that they do squeal. Now been passed on to the technical department in Germany.

Interested if anyone else has had this.

I got mine stolen a few weeks ago. It was found 1 weeks later in what looked like perfect condition. I sent it to Audi for full health check. The brakes were f@@#cked. Discs little multi coloured and pads white. It took 3 weeks to get them replaced under insurance (£1230). In the weeks I had I back the brakes felt ok but the squeaked like he'll under light braking. Just a thought but could be over heating like what happened to mine.
