Constant running coolant fan.

Post by mavada » Mon Sep 26, 2011 9:44 am

It seems my coolant fan is running constantly, it starts running after starting the (cold) engine and keeps runnig untill the engine isnt running. The temp never exceeds the 90 degrees.
What can be the cause of that?
Dont think it will damage anything, except the coolant fan will be worn out sooner... :D

When you do a cold start, do you have the AC on automatic? If so, turn off the AC and see if you still hear a fan.

Just searched this topic and spotted this thread.

My car has the same issue - can someone please elaborate? Does a fan constantly run when the econ a/c mode is on?

I thought econ mode was the blower only running.

When the climate control module is completely off I generally don't hear the fan running, but Iv not checked completely yet.

Might not be applicable to you as the topic is the coolant fan but for others 'hearing' a fan, check to see if you have the solar sunroof panel which powers a small air re-circulation fan for the cabin. :biggrin2:

I can only hear that fan when the car is off, it's fairly quiet, even in full sun...but one of my favorite luxury extras. Always funny when someone notices the sunroof is a solar panel.
