To extend the warranty discussion another step, what if Audi refused a claim as the car had been used on the track ?

Trackday photos are pretty public these days. Just look at some of the 'ring photostores. I know the 'ring isn't technically a track but it does have 'Destination' days that are trackdays, innit.

On a trackday though if you're worried about it, you'd cover your numberplate...

If you're restricting your comments (and I missed it is so, apologies) to a car covered by the original new car warranty, then that's a slightly different matter. I've emailed Audi CS for some clarity on this as I'm interested on the facts rather than hearsay and guesswork (and my new car is covered by original warranty not extended!) and will post their response when it arrives :)
Yes Ross I've been talking about the standard warranty all along. I even mentioned myself that an extended warranty from Porsche is rejected if you make ANY modification. This is of course (I think) why Bam kept saying that it was Fraud... because with an extended warranty you would be aware that you have voided your warranty, then trying to claim on the warranty.. therefore it is Fraud.

The problem with long threads is that no-one has time to read every comment and often the gist is lost but generally... as far as I'm concerned the thread was about (or had become about) the dangers of tuning when the car is still within its manufacturer's warranty.

Thanks for the clarity and no upset intended :)

I have (as I said) emailed Audi UK CS and asked for their input. It'll be interesting to hear they're perspective in writing too!

Wonder what impact modifying has if you've taken finance. Immediate naughty step I'd imagine.

The question would be more geared towards whether it's invalidate a warranty ?
Bear in mind that, for example, I bought an RS4 after Audi invited me and dozens of others to milbrook or various of other UK circuits to try it on track before I bought it
It's hypothetical of course, but an interesting debate if, say, my engine went pop

No, I was aware. The wording is far too ambiguous on the manufacturer warranty to argue though. I'm having my pet barrister take a hard look at it, the problem is gaining access to the in-house legal documents and policies. The stuff served on the net isn't reflective of their actual offering.

That's the spirit my good man.

If the C7 is anything as robust as the C6 you'll be fine.

All this humming and harring about Audis stance and T and Cs!!!.....you map your car in warranty period you take your chances it's as simple as that....you'll either get your car repaired or be royally fucked off by Audi...pretty simple really.

Theory into reality here -

Think Seb had the map himself. But if you buy second hand and it later transpires that the car has been mapped, I presume it's a case of ignorance isn't an excuse....?

Why do you think this would end up in court? Audi would have no desire to move it to a court appointment and I'm not sure what/how you could get this heard. You'd end up in independent arbitration.
If you have an alternative warranty with a turner the Audi warranty is void for those named parts.
If Audi tried to wipe out a warranty claim citing failure caused by an aftermarket part, they would need to prove it, if they could not, then they would have to honour their manufacturer's warranty otherwise be in breach of the Block Exemption Regulation (BER). Indecently, this is only provided that the part was of matching or superior quality to the OEM equivalent and that no OEM part were cut or modified to fit the aftermarket part. This, however, does not extend to remaps, it was only written to cover aftermarket parts, servicing plans and replacement components. The BER also means you may have a registered mechanic of your choice perform manufacturer approved warranty work or servicing without penalty or discrimination.[/quote]

I meant the other way round. If Audi or any Mfctr refused a warranty claim on my car for parts/functionality clearly unrelated to a tune then they'd see themselves being taken to court. My point & how i read VARSITY's post above was he's heard of a tuned RS6 that went in for warranty work & Audi have put a blanket (no warranty work) label on that car because it's been modified in some way. That as far as i can tell is both crazy & probably illegal. Whilst i totally agree that 'should' a tune be spotted & a failure in said car be found to be attributable to that tune, then any Mfctr would be expected to refuse a warranty claim attributable to the tune. However if the sunroof stopped working or the MMI failed or the brakes had problems, how could any Mfctr based on a tune be present, refuse a warranty claim on those parts?
