Vent Mount Boost Gauge

Post by hubbly_bubbly » Mon May 25, 2015 5:40 pm

HMS vent pod and 45mm electronic boost gauge fitted to a 3.0tdi A6 avant. I know it's no RS model but thought I'd still share. The integrated gauges are all the rage nowadays but for those who prefer the old school dial approach might appreciate this. I've got the same gauge installed in my C5 RS6 and Leon Cupra. We have done a range of Audi vent pods including 8L A3/S3 , 8P A3/S3, C5 A6/Rs6 as well as most of the Vw range.

The vent pod is an insert that replaces the stock vent fins, no cutting required. The vent pod insert clips into the original housing. The car is stock for now as far as software goes but still boosts a healthy 1.5bar. Customer is ecstatic with the results.

Go for it bops4 :) That must be quite the potent sooter! This customer is also going hybrid turbo soon.

You need to run the vacuum line from the engine bay into the cabin. Then its a matter of connecting the gauge to switched power and lighting. Quite a simple installation if you are familiar with working on cars.

Quote from the customers installation thread,

Boost gauge:
I bought a gauge and vent pod from hubbly_bubbly on the forum. The 3.0L diesels have a pre-drilled and threaded hole which makes it easy for the boost line.

I routed the pipe through the ECU box on the left hand side of the engine bay (The box cover is off)

Inside the car, when I lowered the glove-box, I again realized how little some people care working on your car. (Front PDC unit)

All neat again:

The wiring of the gauge was very simple. The only added modification I made was installing a 10 000 Ohm variable resistor in series with the LED light wire. I saw in other photos that the lights of the gauge is brighter then the dash lights, so the resistor will allow me to dim the gauge lights until the match the brightness of the dash. Final result: (I have not adjusted the LED brightness yet)

I am very happy with the outcome. Looks like an expensive install for really not much money.

My engine is still stock, but here is my readings from the gauge:
Peak boost: +-1.5 bar
Continuous boost: +- 1.2 bar
